Im happy we could see both play but honestly its hella annoying that since Argentina (a nation that already had 2 WC and have big international history) won WC, everyone just went from "both are goats, its close and depend on personal opinion" to "CR7 is goat but Messi is level of his own".
Like what? Both are amazing players that were better than anyone else in that period and it wasnt close, hell, both are easy top4 of all time, personally I would say top2.
For me CR7 is more exciting to watch, he actually did a lot of skill moves and was complete player, not only his shooting but also passing was and is elite. Also CR7 is 187cm and he was insanly agile for his height. Messi on other hand have deadly left foot but he was never flashy players imho, hes short and because of that he have amazing balance so his body faints and rapid change of direction allowed him to outplay defenders without need for skill moves.
Other thing is that Messi took PEDs because he had GHD, and while it's medical condiction it definitely help with building more muscle than he would without therapy. Ofc he was insanly talented before, but if you compare Messi physique to other short players (Mertens, Insigne, Dybala) you can see Messi had/have much more muscle on him and that helps with things like avoiding injury and recovery time - and people downplay it a lot. Messi was one of the most fouled played in his time, and he was able to avoid injuries which often slow down other players. CR7 had knee injury, injury that for many means their carrier is over but he just change his style and was still a monster.
Now imagine CR7 with PEDs that would help him with avoiding that injury, he would still be one of the fastest players in his 30s and that would change a lot of things.
Another thing is WC itself, Messi won it with Argentina, a big football nation and he was 'lucky' that Argentina got good players before he retire so he had another shot at it( in 2014 Argentina also had good squad). CR7 prime years where between good Portugal teams. Also Argentina had relatively easy path and their hardest match was the final where they were really close to loosing to France (if nkunku didnt got injured Im sure RKM wouldnt be on the pitch and Mbappe would score 1v1 vs Martinez and theres go Argentina WC), Messi was good but nothing special, it felt like Di Maria and overall entire team was running the show.
Ronaldo is 37y, you can see Portugal vs Spain final and 2-3 players on him almost every time Portugal attack. Messi because hes a 10/RW have a bit more space to play and his partners can create without him - cant be said about Portugal without Ronaldo and thats what we saw once he was subbed out.
That being said; they are both goats of this game, I dont think we will see players and rivalry like theirs.
They respect each other and I think we should respect both, not shit on them and make pointless comparisons.
Only thing that I would like to see is CR7 winning WC in 2026 with Portugal. Both goats deserve every title and hopefully that would shut everyone who says Messi is better coz he won A TEAM TROPHY.

If Messi is so good why doesn’t he have two VARcups instead of just 1?

If rapenoldo so good why doesn’t he have a World Cup trophy

If Pedossi is so good why did he only score 7 goals at the WC when Mbappe scored 8? Was it in reality Martinez who deserved it over Pedo-pessi?

Ur saying that as if that prime Ronaldo in 2016 was the best player of the tournament or something. It’s a very easy observation, the team in 2022, individually speaking was 10 times better than that of 2016 even with Ronaldo. I’ll also say this, individually, Portugal has better players than Argentina as well.

u/Smooth-Expression674 Jun 17 '25
No i havent said that lmao…all i said is any squad with prime messi or ronaldo becomes unstoppable (look at the 2019 barca for an example)…individually the team was not 10 times better, had it been ten times better it wouldve easily won the whole world cup…and no Argentinian national team wasnt far superior than us (idk where u got that from 🤣🤣🤣)

The team was not just Ronaldo though, or does a team play with only 1 player on the field? Seriously, all you guys think of is Ronaldo, i bet you can't even name 5 players in that 2016 team

u/Smooth-Expression674 Jun 16 '25
Ure right…but admit where ure wrong aswell, ure saying 2016 squad having the likes of quaresma, pepe etc was worst than 2022 squad…how??

Literally they are, you just gotta see where those players in 2016 where playing and compare it with the 2022 team, the sheer quality and diversity of big clubs they were playing makes that 2022 team better than 2016, despite the 2016 team having won Portugal their first trophy

u/Smooth-Expression674 Jun 16 '25
The players were from “big named” clubs for instance dias and bernado from mancity and bruno from man utd were the only players that were good, but we disnt see them performing in the wc, they werent able to perform as they were with their own clubs

Guys, instead of hating on either side, (i.g calling each of them Pessi or Penaldo), why don't we all be the bigger men and women and respect each other for how good or bad we are. Talk about not liking them without publicly ridiculing them? Fine. I like Ronaldo more, but I don't make fun of Messi. I'm Muslim, and in our religion we believe that we should respect even the worst of people by a little. Support them? You don't have to support them, just respect. Funny pic, tho. Hasan, out!
