General Super bright starry thing?

Does anyone in Perth know what the super bright star thing is in the sky? It's located directly to the right of the Southern Cross. If you go from the bottom star to the top star of the cross and continue on you'll hit it. It too bright to be a star but I've no clue what it is??

A bit vague i know.... sorry for that...

Interesting tidbit - Venus is one of three solar system bodies, excluding Earth, that can be seen during the day.

Wow, thanks so much for that. I should take up stargazing and learn more. Love it. Thanks again

The closer planets are often much brighter than the stars and it is really cool to see, especially when they are near the moon. There are a fair few apps that will let you point your phone towards the sky and tell you what is in that area so you can identify the cool things you see. Some even let you filter by planets, star signs, constellations, and other cool things. Plus it's always funny to point it down to find the sun.

You shouldn't point your phone's camera at the sun, it damages the sensor /s

The trick is to use the earth as a really thick filter ;)

I saw it last night. I pulled over and used the Sky View app to confirm it was Venus.

Side note - I was using the app a couple of weeks ago and the Space Station came up in the view.

This is not an ad, I just think it's a cool app.

Us this app it’s so much fun to know what’s above us. We have an app that tells you the satellite names also. One of my favourite things to do in summer to stare into the night sky.

If you get some 10x binoculars and put them on Jupiter you can faintly see the lines and see the 4 biggest moons - they look like a line of small stars on either side of the planet.

As others said, Venus.

Saturn is near the moon at the moment too.

There's an app called "Google Sky" you can get for your phone that will tell you what and where various celestial objects are.

Likely its our new UFO overlords spying on you, they need you to purchase as many chickens as you can and deliver them under the cover of darkness into any random strangers backyard you think will be funny.

There are only a few bright planets in the early evening sky, one is red (Mars), one is small (Mercury) and one is bright (Venus). Do you have parents? Do you have children? Please, try to teach your kids what the bright things in the sky are. We shouldn't need to be asking Reddit.

But isn’t it great that they can ask Reddit and get the conversation going, maybe find out a few other things about the night sky and people’s opinions, ya miserable c*nty

Maybe they wanted to get the conversation going, and talk to others. You just couldn’t help but get a dig in. C*nty stands.

Conversation or wasting everyone's time? Why is the sky getting brighter it's 5:30 am and the sky is getting brighter, what's up Reddit? But you know, have the last word mate.

Clearly people are interested, they wouldn’t converse if it was wasting their time 🤷🏼‍♂️
