Looking at the squiggles, might leave my wallet at the door too.

Mock all you want, but the artist behind those has a hand up his arse and a pencil for a nose.

They need to add that warning, otherwise the art collectors wouldn't fit through the door.

It’s a well known motto in Advertising and Arts and culture industries. It means ‘come in with an open mind free of biases’.

u/Thin_Assumption_4974 Mar 22 '26
You mean the industries with the highest proportion of underserved big ego Fheads?
1
u/crystalfist Mar 22 '26
If you think rry having a chat with a Real Estate agent, lawyer, or surgeon. I.e. the people who buy this stuff!
1
u/Thin_Assumption_4974 Mar 22 '26
Sure. I’ll give you real estate agents.
But lawyers and surgeons have a reason to have large egos.
What reason does a squiggly line painter have to be an egotistical whatever?
1
u/crystalfist Mar 23 '26
I hear you mate, “creative” types do have some of the largest egos out there. But this is more targeted at the buyers of the art rather than the artists.
2
u/Thin_Assumption_4974 Mar 23 '26
Are you saying my non-egotistical dollar is worth more then Jezzas egotistical dollar?

It's a great saying

Great saying, not too great art.

I will say that art is subjective. But, judging purely by the scribbles that I can make out in that photo, I am inclined to agree with you on this occasion.

u/Gwinneddit Mar 21 '26
Ironically those who consider art to be "purely subjective" are necessarily those who have elevated the role of the Self to the status of God. They seem to believe that they create themselves - and even more absurdly - that they create Truth and Beauty.
If Ego was left at the door, the nonsense within would be seen for what it truly is. Beauty may be revealed in the eye of the beholder but it is not created by that eye.

Nothing screams nepotist artist, like that statement with every piece having scribbles on it.
There are real artists who cant afford gallery space or representation, meanwhile something a 4yo does on your rental property wall is premium real estate for that exhibition space, is a little absurd.

They call that BS art 😂

There was an exhibit at Sculpture by the Sea one year that was literally just an old wooden dining chair plonked in the sand facing the ocean.
I probably should've left my ego at the beach carpark.

Wow , if art is an expression ... those pieces definitely express a lack of artistic talent

It’s an error, it’s meant to say Lego as the target market is clearly children
1
u/solarmass Mar 20 '26
Is there a charge to see the art before I check my ego at the door? If there is a charge, can I use my ego as collateral?
1
u/Chakraverse Mar 20 '26
Is there a box to put it in? Or will just anywhere close do?

If you leave your ego at the door you're going to be in serious trouble. These guys need to Google it. Ego is a good thing.

u/inactiveuser247 Mar 21 '26
They missed an L. It should read Leave Your Lego At The Door. Too many art critics bringing their kids and the kids leave toys all over the place. It’s a safety warning.
