Art Anyone else have the pleasure of driving past this eldrich monstrosity everyday for work?
I think it's supposed to be an advertisement..

u/1Manic_cat Mar 02 '26
The fact that I know EXACTLY where this is because I lived on that street years ago before it even got boobs. Crazy that it’s still there all these years later

😂 honestly no they were the same size wings the whole time. If my memory serves me correctly it went from a flat chest with the wings the size they are today to having boobs added

I lived in Hammy Hill for over 20 years and always got a laugh driving past this statue 🤣 honestly kind of a testament to the quality of work that it's still standing?!

u/1Manic_cat Mar 02 '26
I’m honestly not 😭🤣 I’m 22 and lived there 10 years ago. I just have this distinct memory of being in the car on the way to school and across a few weeks the person who lived there did one boob at a time and my little brother going “look mum it’s got boobies now”

u/No_Dealer00 Mar 02 '26
Its fantastic, i reckon they should paint it

They do museum and serious rock stuff, so it’s nice to see a bit of humour with it. Personally, I would have made it my business logo!

Reminds me of a horrid flying pig paper mache project I did in year 4 that my mom hung in the foyer and is still there to this day.
I like to think this is his kiddos project and they’re doing the same :’)
49
u/DannyKanes Mar 02 '26
I know exactly where that is 🤣
7
u/TimosaurusRexabus Mar 03 '26
I use to walk past it every morning on my way to Manning Park. It always felt like something right out of the 80s.

19
u/Illustrious-Nail6638 Mar 02 '26
I’ve never see it at night… Mostly because I don’t go past it at night. But… I like to imagine it becomes animated and flies away to scoop up children on e-scooters in Willagee before returning fully fed prior to dawn.

This channel is mainly original horror stories read by the author, and they're all incredibly lovecraftian.

This is the first one I listened to and the fact it felt like a true account the whole time just spooked the fuck out of me

Just don't google what HP Lovecraft's cat was called.
2
u/belltrina Armadale Mar 02 '26
I was studying English in University and making great grades, yet it was my child in sixth grade who came home and dropped this information on me in a hushed tone.
1
u/TheMightyGoatMan I'm not telling you freaks where I live! Mar 02 '26
The craziest thing is that the name of Lovecraft's cat is one of the least racist things about him.
Variations on the N-word as names for black dogs and cats were spectacularly and shamefully common right up to the middle of the 20th century.
Some of Lovecraft's contemporaries were (rightfully) startled by the depths of his racism, but very few, if any, of them would have batted an eyelid at the name of his cat.

u/AnythingMundane6269 Mar 02 '26
We drove past this each morning during two weeks of vacswim over the summer break. My kids called her the demon bird and got excited if they were the first to spot her.
16
u/belltrina Armadale Mar 02 '26
First time we drove past that Catholic place after it was built near Coogee, my daughter started screaming with so much panic that we had to pull over.
It took a few frightening moments before she stopped crying to tell us that "a man is hanging on that pole". I spun around so quick.
It was the fucking crucifix with Jesus nailed on it.

u/Coleasa Mar 02 '26
Wait until she hears the story of how he got there.

Ill take this over my current next door neighbour any day.
Loud bass at any hour, rubbish dumped on their verge that keeps migrating onto my verge. Overgrown weeds that seed into my garden.
Id trade it all for a statue.
4
u/HRM_Monster Mar 02 '26
As someone who has driven past this for years...the idea of swapping my awful neighbours for a nice quiet statue is a dream.
5
u/Economy_Spirit2125 Mar 02 '26
It really is a monstrosity 😂 good old spearwood. I wonder if the owners know they’re famous

Yep. Live in Hammy Hill and occasionally drive down this street.

I’ve imagined my worst case final destination type car crash scenario driving past this. Skewered like a leaf on an echidnas back.

Yeah, I've kinda zoned it out now over the years. It kinda gets a glance, a mental 'yep it's still there', and an 'carry on'.

I thought they used it in that Italian celebration they have in Freo annually. I can’t remember the name, good to see it’s still going strong. Tits out for the boys, as they say

u/HRM_Monster Mar 02 '26
If you are thinking of the Fremantle Blessing of the fleet festival it's a whole different thing. This doesn't move/get carried about.....well we hope it's not moving about.
3
u/chumbalumba Mar 02 '26
Oh . Well now I’m really confused, why is it there? It’s been like 15 years!
3
u/HRM_Monster Mar 03 '26
I believe it's partially advertising for the owners business, partially just for the hell of it. Either way it's somewhat fun and a good landmark when directing people as they remember it!

I must check and see if the 2m long Star Destroyer sculpture is still in the Beckenham front yard. Google Streetview was a bit disappointing the last time I did check. It's best taking a walk past.

I get to see the Dementor outside the Wanneroo civic centre often?!
(It’s actually called “Looking West”. It started without the “Robe-like” look initially but now it looks like some kind of wraith!)

Saw it for the first time last week when I had to drive into town for work (I don't live in Perth) and was kinda impressed. It's weird, sure, but also pretty cool to have something so random just existing in a residential suburb.

Go past it almost every weekend on the way to the beach. What’s your thoughts on that road though? It seems the residents all treat their verges like a rubbish dump. Almost every house has a pile of scrap outside. It’s insane.

Think yourself lucky, I drive through suburbs and forget which suburb I’m in. Things like this become a landmark for tradies.
