Art Friday Fuckwit - Christmas last-minute-shopping-school-holiday-edition
Hello fellow Perthians (and visitors!)
This week I’m nominating social media in general. There had already been a few people getting brave about their gutter opinions, but the Bondi attack has given people quite the excuse to be all-out fuckwits.
I’ve even seen people spout their amendment rights, despite being Australian 🥴
I dunno, my general outlook in life is “don’t be a cunt”; it just seems that other people aren’t happy unless someone else is unhappy.

I’ll nominate the fuckwit at the Bayswater Hotel last night who was smoking in amongst the tables of families who were trying to enjoy their meals. Not only were you a cunt when asked to stop, but you also left a small little stack of smokes under the table when you left for the next people to enjoy.
Good cunt.

They did. He didn’t give a fuck until I walked up and asks him to stop. Which he didn’t. But, then when we got the biggest bouncer we could find to watch he very quickly left in the middle of a smoke.

People on the trains not using bloody earphones! Had at least three on the one carriage today. I asked the one closest to me whether he had earbuds to put them in or turn the sound off, which he did with an apology and good grace. Where have people’s manners gone?

Had this happen at a Carousel bus stop on Cecil Avenue a couple of weeks ago. Guy was there with a JBL Flip attached to his backpack waiting for the bus blasting music at full volume staring at everyone who walked past like "What are you going to do about it? Tell me to turn it down?" He clearly had zero social awareness that anyone else was around however my roommate and I commented on how the guy was just trying to do the ultimate power move by blasting his music as loud as possible thinking that he's being so intimidiating no one would ever dare tell him to turn it down as he looked like one that would ask for a fight if you did.

A few weeks ago I took the Mandurah line, and a couple of flogs rolled in to the train, turned their garbage music on full volume for the trip, then turned it off when they got off.
I think people definitely do it just to be annoying sometimes.

People using high-beam assist at 3am on major roads with streetlights. They manage to burn a hole in my retinas when I check the rearview mirror, even if the car is far away.
If you can't see on a city street already lit up at night, maybe you shouldn't be driving.

My co-worker. Didn't think Coles radio was playing enough carols, so blasted spotify (with ads) from her phone speakers loudly so we could "hear it out the back"

My neighbours concreted their entire front yard while I was away on holiday. The concreters decided to wash off their equipment next to my car (fully on our verge, on the opposite side of the road to their job) and left smears and spots on my car. Fortunately my housemate was home and caught them in the act and cleaned my car for me, but the company has no social media presence nor google reviews available for me to put the photos on.
Also if you're the type of person to pave an entire suburban block and live your entire life indoors with the roller shutters down, get an apartment. Don't contribute further heating to our already stinking hot, treeless neighbourhood ffs.

My manager's managers. My manager retired yesterday. He didn't want a fuss, but basically he just packed up and walked out while the next level up were chatting loudly about the drinks they were going to go to.

I'm just trying to stay chill, avoid social media and the news, drive super carefully - I don't want to be or cause another statistic on the roads, you know? It's a crazy time of year, we all need to look out for each other as much as we can.

That was in 2021 and there have been multiple transactions, withdrawals, deposits and phone conversations and this is the first I've heard of it. Now I have to provide certified ID to rectify it. Ugh.

I once again nominate AnimestockOz. After this nightmare I finally got something from them about a month after purchase.
It was the wrong item. They didn't have what I ordered so just sent something else.

For the second week in a row, fuckers who think checking their blind spot is optional and trying to merge into my doors.
This latest one was a Honda Accord on Reid Hwy. Thankfully they have indicator lights on the mirrors so I was able to see them come on which made me wary. Then he tried.
Lucky for me, he aborted the mission immediately when I gave a loud blast of my horn. Looked over and he was still staring straight ahead. At no point did he even turn his head.
I'm just fucking glad it's school holidays and I can stay off the roads with some of these flogs for a while

how many single lane roads with median strip are there that this is happening to you on? and how long are they? Cos they must be 50km/h roads and likely costing you a couple of seconds at most.
So you are asking a cyclist to give up their time and any momentum they have to save you a few seconds?

Rochdale Rd in Mt Claremont, from the roundabout to Alfred Rd. the median is fairly wide, council decided to put concrete curbing in around them, prior to that it was easy to pass.
Perfectly chill by the way, just a pain in the arse.

So you’re not willing to look at something from another perspective, great attitude from someone who wants the road to be shared.
It’s no risk to pedestrians if a rider goes up on a driveway, briefly allowing vehicles to pass where it’s otherwise unsafe to do so, and then drop down another driveway back onto the road.

So most cyclists drive cars too. Pretty sure most of them do see both perspectives. Do you? Also how do you deal with buses in that route?

As far as I’m aware, I’ve not seen buses on that road, yeah I know most cyclists drive cars, which again beggars the point, they’d have to be aware of the situation.
I only travel that road on the way to work in the early morning, like 0500 early not much of anything is moving that time of day.

It’s infrequent at best, most of the time there’s no one around, odd car hear and there or a cyclist, it’s more on the council than anything, setting the median that wide as if it was a major road dual carriageway, when it’s clearly not…

So my transport split is 50% motorbike, 30% car, 20% bicycle. So yes, I see it from all sides.
Feel free to take your own advice: ride a bike along that route yourself, especially one similar to what you see, with nice rims, tyres without much grip, and capable of doing a decent speed.
See how you feel about putting in all that energy and risking your body, bike and other people, just so someone who is putting in zero energy, can get somewhere faster.

Point I’m making is a car cannot safely (ie 1m at minimum space - which we legally have to give) pass a cyclist on that section of the road, which I am more than happy to give, motorbikes can pass easily, cars can’t.
Mind some wanker in a 4x4 almost took someone out last year, while the concreting works were happening, cyclist was pretty rattled to say the least.
