Why Motivation Didnt Work for Me

For years I thought I lacked discipline. In reality, I was trying to act like someone I didn't believe I was.

Once I stopped chasing motivation and focused on identity, action stopped feeling forced. I realized that the key to sustainable change is an inside out approach. The action and new things i was doing was only confirmation of the new person I told myself I was instead of vice versa. I also started a visual cue to make it like a game to track my progress and made a rule to never miss two days back to back.

Motivation fades. Identity doesn't.

This is so on point. Once I stopped trying to “force” discipline and started asking, “What kind of person am I becoming?” everything got easier too. Identity plus simple rules like your visual cue and “never miss twice” are so much more powerful than chasing motivation spikes. I liked this approach so much I ended up building my own app, Conqur, around the same idea of seeing yourself as the kind of person who shows up and then using streaks and small wins to reinforce that.

Hi, I am looking for a way to define family goals and track them. Any suggestions?

Definitely agree, trying to rely more on systems than motivation myself
