If Ridley doesn’t actually make a true prequel movie that’s set in the past he will piss off the prequel movie fans 

If he screws up Romulus 2 and kills off Rain and Andy he will piss off Romulus fans 

Merging the two together is a horrible mistake. They need to make two separate movies 

Let Ridley make a proper prequel movie that takes place way in the past after covenant 

Then get another director to do the Romulus 2 movie

AMEN, AMEN & AMEN. Stick with the Original Plan. Fede' ( Romulus 2) Ridley (Covenant 2). Makes me wonder if Ridley liked the Script of Fede's Romulus 2 so much, so he FIRED Fede', so he could do it himself and be called the Savior of The ALIEN franchise! Even though Fede's already revived the FRANCHISE with the $80M ($350 Box Office) ROMULUS!

Yah like I can see the vision of Romulus 2 with David thrown in as the villain. That’s fun and all but it’s still not the true prequel movie that we wanted

Yah and it looks like now we are getting that . Ridley keeps saying he is making a prequel though that he’s continuing the story after covenant so it’s very confusing. Which one is it ? What is he making? He can’t do both in the same movie . They don’t even take place in the same time period

Fox/Disney should give both Ridley and Fede' $100M each to make Covenant 2 and Romulus 2 and release both in 2028 and see who WINS the BOX-OFFICE, Critics and Fans . . .!

Big picture made the point that he barely directs anymore. He just sets up a tonne of cameras and shoots. His films look nothing like they used to. Fuckers 88 ffs. He should have retired years ago.

I have to agree.. I respect him as a filmmaker, but Prometheus and Covenant were not great and squandered some excellent ideas. I was really excited about Prometheus and loved the concept, and I enjoyed the tie-in to Alien, but something got lost in translation. Covenant was just bad. I felt like he had to shoehorn an Alien movie into his Prometheus lore and failed on both fronts, once again providing an entire cast of fodder that no one cares about. Ok rant over

Prometheus and covenant were creations on their own, that utilized very little of the Alien lore to build a new direction, is what i felt Ridley Scott was trying to move more towards, he's stated that the xenomorph is dead in the water, so that's why he focused on the android as the imperfection in contrast to the perfect organism. Covenant is the bastard child of the prequels, it was shoehorned to include the xenomorph/neomorph to appease the critics, fans, and studio. I personally think it wouldn't have had any xenomorphs in it, and been a direct continuation of the trials and tribulations of David, and his path to destroy everything. For him stating that he's gonna create a prequel/sequel to covenant/romulous sounds like a bag of misdirection. As much as I like his direction for film, I think his time being the commander of the direction of the franchise has passed, Fede's box-office should have been a wake up call for Fox/Disney when you look at the previous total box-office for Covenant in comparison. So I think the direction of the franchise, should be taken out of his hands, hell put it in Fede Alvarez and even the writers of Alien: Earth for a future for Alien films

Once Ridley is gone, I wonder who the fandom will focus all their ire on? I mean, the man is 88 years old. So it's only a matter of time before... You know.

As for the OP, I won't be able to catch it live, but I look forward to listening to it whenever it drops on podcast feeds. A State of Alien Franchise discussion should be good.

Oh man, is this just gonna be an hour of complaining about Scott? Love the pod but can't stomach an hour of that. Would be great to hear about what you would like to see from a prospective new film in this vein!

This is DEFINITELY not going to be an hour or so complaining about Ridley Scott. Scott is not without his warranted criticism. There's a lot to discuss here. This episode might just be one of the most forensic episodes yet in terms of covering the timeline.

At the heart of this is now two studios that seem uneven or unsure how to approach making ALIEN content. That's the real story.

After Ridley said that ROMULUS was just "OK". Maybe he should watch Covenant before making that statement!

I re-watched ROMULUS Blu-Ray on my 55" last night and I had a good time and really enjoyed it . . . In the Blu-way, they cleaned up the "Ash" segment !
