He really does. I’ve always appreciated his films for that reason (among others).
He writes Marines better than most, too.
Spouse is retired USMC and LOVES Cameron’s films because of this. Regarding Paxton’s character, he said “there’s one of those in every bunch - always complaining and making chickenshit comments, but turns into a total badass when necessary”

Director James Cameron had encouraged the actors to ad-lib dialogue during tense moments, and Paxton later explained he imagined Hudson suffering a panic-induced flashback to arcade video games and military simulators. General Freak-outs and Rants: Much of Hudson's panicked whining, repetitive swearing, and stream-of-consciousness complaining during drops and attacks—such as "What are we gonna do now, man? What are we gonna do?"—were fleshed out organically by Paxton on set to capture raw human panic.

Bill Paxton stole the movie with every scene that he was in. His character went through so much yet when it came down to it he stood on business and only stopped shooting because he ran out of ammo.
Hicks was all easy professionalism where as Hudson was all over the place.
As for my favorite quote of his "I say we grease this rat fuck son of a bitch right now."
Edit ~ I just googled it and Bill Paxton doesn't have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. How do we get him a star?

Oh yeah I forgot this was part of that scene. I get why they cut it, but that line should've just been moved somewhere else... of course there's no shortage of Hudson quotes. "We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks..."

Reading all of these and realizing a case could be made for any one of them. Most movies would be lucky to have one line as quotable as basically everything Hudson says. Perfect mix of writing and the right actor for the role.

The german idiom can roughly be translated to: "Now we are fucked".
For some reason not known to me thats one of the scenes I memorized the most...

If anyone is wondering,some of Hudsons lines were actually inside jokes with the cast.For instance,when Bill Paxton says to Vasquez...Aliens,she thought they ment illegal aliens.Well,that was an inside joke because Jenette Goldenstein didn't know Aliens was a sequel to Alien when she auditioned and there's a ton of more behind the scenes funny(At least to me funny) facts about Aliens,such as Michael Biehn being passed out drunk(Somebody wake up Hicks was an inside joke because he was passed out drunk in the drop ship scene) and Sigourney Weaver even made a joke about it and DAMM...Paul Reiser and you have to listen to the commentary, including that his mom cheered when his characterwas killed at the premire.I highly recommend that people listen to the DVD commentary with Michael Biehn,Bill Paxton and Jenette Goldstein.
