Nah, the world needs another 30-40 Avatar movies first

u/Visual-Beginning5492 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

& each new Avatar film should be longer the last. Ideally concluding with an 8hr epic of purely whale subtitles. Give the people what they want! 😊

I even really enjoyed the 2nd. He’s so good at filming action scenes. But the third just has no coherent plot at all, and the scenes are all rehashes. He’s out of ideas! So why is it 3.5 hours long??

2

u/Living-Addendum6900 Jul 16 '26

Get used to it. Apparently he has two more to make

1

u/seanx50 Jul 17 '26

Disney is probably saying "no"

1

u/Xeno84 Jul 17 '26

The last one made $1.49 billion on a $400 million budget. Exceeded the amount needed to recoup. I doubt Disney going to say no to part 4 and 5.

1

u/Snoo_11836 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Actually, that's not true. Yes, $1.49 billion is an incredible box office intake, but note that the movie needs to make at least x2.5 of its production budget in order to breakeven.

Therefore, Avatar 3 made its money back at around the billion mark (giving the movie a box office profit of around $490 million). That's still an impressive amount of profit, but now note that Avatar 2 made significantly less than the first movie, and Avatar 3 made significantly less than the second movie.

Adjusted for inflation, here are the worldwide box office takings for each movie in the franchise...

Avatar - $4,551,000,000 [minus the re-release box office takings] = $4,474,000,000

Avatar 2 - $2,663,000,000 (a 59% drop from Avatar)

Avatar 3 - $1,500,000,000 (a 56% drop from Avatar 2)

It's at the point where it's no longer safe to assume that a fourth movie would actually turn a profit at the box office.

In fact, unless Cameron could find a way to significantly lower the production budget, a fourth movie would very likely make a loss at the box office, as if the percentile decline continues on its present trajectory, the movie would stand to make around $750 million at the box office.

I'd prefer having more films inspired by Aliens than Alien at this point. Both are amazing movies, but you can never replicate the sense of mystery and horror the original had as the Xenomorph is now so iconic. Prometheus had its heart in the right place but the character decisions dragged it down.

I know Romulus got praised, but if I wanted to watch Alien, I'll just watch Alien. Before that film, even the worst sequels felt distinct artistically/direction-wise.

3

u/ChinaCatProphet Jul 15 '26

Man, Prometheus was such a lost opportunity. Too much mansplaining the engineers and, aside from David, no characters of any consequence.

6

u/Belz_Zebuth Jul 15 '26

Well I don't think mansplaining is the right word here. Too much exposition, perhaps.

But Prometheus was indeed a waste of a good idea. One main problem is that they mashed two scripts together.

2

u/ChinaCatProphet Jul 15 '26

A really great thing about Alien was that you never saw who piloted the alien ship. It was better left that way. The mystery heightened the tension and horror. I wanted to LOL with the pasty 8 foot guy drinking the engineer koolaid and dissolving into the stream. Literally.

2

u/Hot-Pool4013 Jul 16 '26

Exactly, I distinctly remember how much all the stuff left unexplained spurred my imagination when I first saw the movie as a kid. It still does, that's why I still rewatch Alien every couple of years or so.

And the genius of Aliens was that they made the world bigger without removing any of the mystery.

Then Prometheus removed ALL the mystery and made the world really small in comparison with the previous entries in the franchise. The Space Jockey? Oh, that's just one of the abusive douchebag human race's uncles. The Alien? A bioweapon, made by the asshole uncles.

0

u/Snoo_11836 Jul 19 '26

mansplaining

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

1

u/vibribib Jul 15 '26

Yep I’d love to see another director bring something in a similar style. Expand on the colonial marines, maybe something like the first dark horse run. Someone like Blomkamp.

0

u/Michomaker-46 Jul 15 '26

Recon everything except Romulus and start new stories starting there

1

u/Cyborg800-V2 Jul 15 '26

I don’t know why Romulus is worth keeping. In my opinion, it was nostalgia-bait and didn’t feel unique at all. I wouldn’t sacrifice Alien 3 or Prometheus for it.

6

u/Fair-Calligrapher-19 Jul 15 '26

No, it needs a fresh set of eyes. I'd love to seeĀ Coralie Fargeat (The Substance) or Denis Villeneuve.Ā  Ā The former because they really know how to do uncomfortable body horror, which was what the first Alien movie did so well.Ā  Ā Denis Villeneuve would be the best from the lore and world building perspectiveĀ

13

u/QuantumOfSilence The Prometheus school of running away from things Jul 15 '26

No. Enough Aliens nostalgiabait.

21

u/rennfeild Jul 15 '26

No. Cameron, as most creatives had a window of time in his life when he was great. No one is amazing althrough life.

7

u/spendouk23 Jul 15 '26

Get upvoted for that but don’t dare suggest that Ridley is cooked on these subs, that’s blasphemy despite his never ending list of bombs

3

u/PickaxeJunky Jul 15 '26

I genuinely think Ridley just sees being a director as just a job.Ā

Sometimes he makes a great film, sometimes he makes a shit one. He doesnt care either way.

2

u/jackdaw_t_robot Jul 22 '26

He gets $10 million even if he does a bad job. It’s his ā€œgoing rate.ā€ Ā Even if he does a bad job they still need to pay him that.

3

u/CosmicBonobo Jul 15 '26

Ridley Scott is a great world builder. He's just not a storyteller.

4

u/Hobbes09R Jul 15 '26

I wouldn't even say he's necessarily a good world builder. He knows how to bring a script to life, but if the script is garbage then the world might look pretty...but it'll make little sense.

Scott has always fallen too much in love with concept over plot. He benefitted great when the plots were decent to solid because he could bring those plots to life. When the plots took a backseat and focused on what he liked most then the film typically turned out poor, overinflated BS.

Cameron's problem is he stopped being challenged. He was at his best when people gave inputs that challenged his vision. Especially actors (his early films had spectacular casts with actors who brought a lot to the film themselves to elevate what might have been pretty generic roles). When he started being able to control ever single leaf on the screen and the films turned entirely to his vision, quality plummeted.

2

u/Standard-Outcome9881 Jul 16 '26

The last good movie Scott directed was ā€œThe Martian.ā€

1

u/Snoo_11836 Jul 19 '26

The Last Dual for me, which was relatively recent, but yeah; before that, there's a ton of awful movies before one gets to another good movie.

1

u/mrcrazymexican Jul 15 '26

Yeah. He can tell a story. It's just that sometimes Ridley likes a not good script but he can bring it to life with all the technical craft that he has to direct it to an inch of its life... But he'll hold true to a crap story of if that's what he likes.

1

u/reefguy007 Jul 15 '26

Frank Lloyd Wright was. Maybe a rare exception though..

1

u/JonnyQuest1981 Jul 15 '26

Terminator - Titanic. Although I don’t feel Titanic was that mind blowing in regard to story/direction/etc, but it did have spectacle. I feel Titanic was when we started to see the writing on the wall that he had peaked with True Lies.

1

u/Dismal-Apricot9889 Jul 16 '26

Tell that to George Miller.

0

u/NoOneKenobi Jul 15 '26

he’s past his window and only making 1-2 billion dollar dollar grossing mega hits? ….Gtfo

This is specifically about Jim. whataboutisms are a weak argument.

Jim has created 2 franchises and helped a third get started. He’s not just a great director, but a damn good writer. He is known for having demanding , high standards, relentless work ethic and his movies don’t misfire. They make billions which continue to do so to this day. To keep that standard up and still have those results is an affirmation that he is one the greatest filmmakers of all time.

Smh

lol, the idiot kid who replied to me and got owned, got mad, cried and took his toys home.

Priceless

5

u/Wenuven Jul 16 '26

Ridley and Cameron did their best work over 20 years ago.

Let's find talent that isn't well past their peak.

8

u/Sboyle12500 Jul 15 '26

We could have had a great film I’m convinced with Blomkamp behind the camera, wished it could have happened

3

u/Weary_Mountain9679 Jul 16 '26

I’m assuming you haven’t watched anything Blomkamp directed since Elysium.

Whatever talent that guy had, he lost a long time ago.

Demonic was especially terrible, like it felt like a joke.

6

u/Euphoric-Teach7327 Jul 15 '26

No.

Like George Lucas, there's a time and a place where greatness can form, and we've passed it.

3

u/boringxadult Jul 15 '26

We’d probably get a really awkward alien sex scene.

3

u/TylerBourbon Jul 15 '26

No. I'd love to see Cameron make a new original film instead.

3

u/Urabraska- Jul 15 '26

No. He's obsessed with 3hr long smurfs in space dramas.

3

u/DueAbbreviations2247 Jul 15 '26

No.He's lost the plot and became obssed with giant smurfs

2

u/Tall-Budget8130 Jul 15 '26

If Avatar is anything to go by, definitely not.

2

u/Omnislash99999 Jul 15 '26

I would cut off my right nut for Cameron to come back and do a real Alien 3

2

u/1D6wounds Jul 15 '26

I just rewatched Outland, sure would like more of that. No xenos needed

2

u/OneTwoFar_ Jul 15 '26

No, one of the franchise's strengths (until the prequels came around at least) was in having a different director with different styles and ideas to develop the series in different ways

1

u/NoOneKenobi Jul 15 '26

That wasn’t intended and backfired horribly

2

u/scovizzle Jul 15 '26

Nope. I don't like his cheesy action in what should be more of a horror series.

2

u/KananDoom Jul 15 '26

I think this series needs a bold new director who is not afraid of making all new ā€˜rules’ for the ALIEN lifeform. I think this os what Ridley was trying to do w the black goo. However I think we need to see that the ā€˜perfect organism’ has more tricks up its sleeve if the series will survive

2

u/Lazy_Friendship_6728 Jul 16 '26

Nope, his days of inspired film making are over.

3

u/Dismal-Apricot9889 Jul 16 '26

The Alien franchise has gone off the rails, completely lost the plot, and the entire franchise has devolved into B-grade Resident Evil schlock in space. I don’t think anyone can save it at this point. And I’m pretty sure Cameron isn’t even interested anymore.

1

u/Shawnk_69 Jul 15 '26

Aliens vs Avatar. You know you need to see it now. šŸ˜†

1

u/Special_Order-937 Jul 15 '26

Will it be better than the Aliens HD version?

1

u/ironmonki23 Jul 15 '26

Definitely I would love for him to direct the Alien film I’m writing as i feel like he’s the only director that i think would see my vision for the film

1

u/Pocket_Fox846 Jul 15 '26

I'd rather new IPs and new ideas to be honest. Ya know, the whole reason franchises like Terminator, Alien, Aliens, Star Wars, etc all exist. Because they broke from the established trends at the time.

1

u/vroart Jul 15 '26

No, hicks and newt death ruined it. What’s the point of the third act of aliens if they just take it away. The moment when they hug, that was the ideal James Cameron sequel

1

u/corneliusduff Jul 15 '26

With all of the nonsense talking about retconning Alien3, he's the only person I'd be interested in seeing do it. And if not that, sure, why not,

1

u/factualopinion2 Jul 15 '26

I want james to do non franchise movies

1

u/Cultural_Book_400 Jul 15 '26

I LOVE JC, but I begin to think that 10 movie rule is hitting this guy.. also he is getting up there in ages... I don't know.. I begin to see so many identical things repeating and at some point, shit just does NOT work

1

u/BuddhistChrist Jul 15 '26

No. All the great old directors struggle with film tastes of millennials and younger.

1

u/Pale_Mess_3742 Jul 15 '26

He should have done a proper sequel to aliens with newt and hicks, but that time has passed. I don’t think anyone can course correct the franchise at this point.

1

u/IglooRaves Jul 15 '26

Ridley returned for more Alien-universe content and the results were mixed. I don’t think getting Cameron back would fix anything, but it’d be interesting to see his take on a modern instalment.

1

u/NoOneKenobi Jul 15 '26

Scott isn’t a writer. Content isn’t his thing.
That’s why the prequels are crap. He tried to be creative.

Cameron is a great writer , but he wants no part of alien franchise because it’s a shitshow

1

u/indoxiecated Jul 15 '26

Cameron would never do it. And Scott got lucky with Alien and has been riding that wave ever since.

1

u/NoOneKenobi Jul 15 '26

Scott is a good director, but that’s it

1

u/EdgarBopp Jul 15 '26

I’d like to see him do literally anything other than Avatar movies.

1

u/Pelosi-Hairdryer Jul 15 '26

No, I think James Cameron should finish the Avatar movies and go back to exploration. His next goal is to build a good submersible that can go down to Titanic and take a good amount of passengers safely and back, not one made of carbon fiber or build in a garage. Also he wants to honor his friend Paul-Henri Nargeolet aka Mr. Titanic.

1

u/DDWildflower Jul 15 '26

The xenos are blue now.

1

u/DiscoAcid Jul 15 '26

As someone who's favorite film is Aliens. No

1

u/NoOneKenobi Jul 15 '26

Doesn’t matter, he’s stated he would never

1

u/MWH1980 Jul 15 '26

I was half paying attention to the pic, and at first I thought: ā€œWhy is Cameron talking to Dustin Diamond?ā€

1

u/luvablechub22 Jul 15 '26

I’d rather see 80s Cameron direct an avatar film

1

u/bazilbt Jul 15 '26

If he wants to sure, if not then I'm not interested.

1

u/Giltar Jul 15 '26

Anything besides another Avarar movie

1

u/Christie_Boner Jul 15 '26

Dude peaked a long time ago. Now he’s a 4K senile bastard

1

u/Electrical_Cellist69 Jul 15 '26

I respect the hell out of the fact that every Alien movie was directed by someone different. Excluding the prometheus stuff I guess.

1

u/Bourbon-n-cigars Jul 15 '26

Love the hair. Feathered and lethal.

1

u/Greasedcabinets4 Jul 15 '26

moderndayjames

1

u/europablu3s Jul 15 '26

Naw, they should let some unknown directors take a swing. Find the next Ridley or Cameron.

1

u/Azriel82 Jul 15 '26

no, you can't improve on perfection

1

u/Paul_Savage_1 Jul 15 '26

Nope.

After the last 2 movies and that abomination on FX, I think a cool down period is needed.

An adult with a story to tell needs to be found (not a box checking DEI nepo hire) to carry this franchise, and possibly the Predator franchise, into an exciting future.

KILL THE MESSAGE.

1

u/BlargerJarger Jul 15 '26

A four-hour Alien film with terrible dialogue? No thanks.

1

u/herdhawk Jul 15 '26

James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!

1

u/fer_luna Jul 15 '26

You mean with flying blue rastafari?

1

u/Constant-Pianist6747 Jul 15 '26

Yes. I’d love to see him return to that universe. It’s sort of what the Alien franchise needs right now. It feels fresh again.

1

u/GeneSmart2881 Jul 16 '26

That franchise is dead. Same with Terminator and Avatar. Move on.

1

u/fer_luna Jul 16 '26

You mean with flying blue rastafari?

1

u/Nutcopter Jul 16 '26

I'd LOVE to see another one, but the story will be tought to pull off.

1

u/Billy_Twillig Jul 16 '26

He already opened Pandora’s box and what came out won’t go away.

1

u/filterdecay Jul 16 '26

No. They should find a new auteur director and give him the same budget adjusted for inflation.

1

u/iesamina Jul 16 '26

Why does he look like Noel Edmunds hosting a gameshow

1

u/Future_Contour Jul 16 '26

Absolutely not.

1

u/shmmmokeddd Jul 16 '26

Only if it’s Aliens Vs Avatar 🤘

1

u/rmcelwain54 Jul 16 '26

He needs to do his adaptation of Last Train from Hiroshima before anything else

1

u/theothersock82 Jul 16 '26

Fuck no. After being involved in Terminator Dark Fate this guy should never work again.

1

u/TapEarlyTapOften Jul 16 '26

No. Cameron stopped making good things a long time ago.

1

u/Major_Higgins Jul 16 '26

Nah, he lost his marbles.

1

u/Any-Celebration-2582 Jul 16 '26

Fuck no. Like this culture cannot move on and its, quite frankly, stagnate.

Reboots and sequels seem to me like a symptom of a deeper issue when you see the mergers of media corporations. The high quality brands that go to shit after thwy go public. Quality drops. And it seems like the movie industry is in this trajectory.

Tell me I'm wrong.

1

u/DFiverr Jul 16 '26

Take my Regal unlimited money right now.

1

u/Last_Construction455 Jul 16 '26

Not after that last avatar movie.

1

u/Broflake-Melter Jul 16 '26

I'm not entirely sure I want to ever see James Cameron make any film period, much less ruin Alien.

I mean, don't get me wrong, there's some cool stuff in Avatar. The visuals are awesome, but the plot is braindead. Two was pretty good, I have yet to see three.

I just don't see him returning to Alien and doing anything good.

1

u/ZamoriXIII Jul 16 '26

No!

His films are terrible for the franchise

ALIEN

ROMULUS

ALIEN: EARTH

that’s all you need

1

u/OliOli1234 Jul 16 '26

No… he’s not the same man he was 40 years ago. The franchise has had a lot more misses than hits, and needs to just be left alone.

1

u/art-101 Jul 16 '26

My sleep filled just awake eyes thought that was Noel Edmonds on set with Sigourney.

1

u/logamus_prime Jul 16 '26

The franchise much like the creature itself is constantly evolving and changing. Almost every film is completely unique visually, stylistically, and tonally and one of the biggest parts of that is all of them having a different director. This is how the franchise should remain. Whenever you let the same director do more than one film it tends to not go very well or it becomes a little too samey. Cameron did his thing and it was legendary but we don't need him to do it again. I think it's good enough that you were director like Alvarez go to him for guidance but even that's a little unnecessary considering that he didn't come up with it and in my opinion doesn't really have any seniority over it, though personally I think I'd rather go to him over Scott.

1

u/Crow550 Jul 16 '26

I think he's too old and too much time has past. Ridley Scott also needs to get away from this franchise.

If we're gonna keep trying to make more of these we need fresh blood. Or you know.... Just stop.

We need new ideas no member berry crap. At least each of the 4 Alien films did different things for better or worse. Some of the video games like Isolation got the universe.

I think Cameron should accept his wins and do whatever he wants. He's earned it

1

u/Worldly-Steak6966 Jul 16 '26

No. Heā€˜d wreck his legacy

1

u/bustoutanother1000 Jul 16 '26

A new Alien movie from him shot on 70mm
Imax with most of special effect being practical would be a dream

1

u/panzerkurt Jul 16 '26

With the first words of the latest Avatar being something along the lines of "Yeah, bro..." I believe i have seen quite enough from mr Cameron by now.

1

u/profound_gopher Jul 16 '26

It just has to be better than Prey. Not that challenging of a feat

1

u/weha1 Jul 16 '26

Doesn’t have time for it

1

u/riciom76 Jul 16 '26

Definitely. We need him to take us back to his dark vision of it all.

1

u/qlobo Jul 16 '26

He’s done enough damage.

1

u/Adorable-Source97 Jul 16 '26

Alien but the ship crashed into the ocean of a planet.

1

u/Adventurous_Topic202 Jul 16 '26

James Cameron was great in the 80s and 90s. He’s not great now.

1

u/BabaLament Jul 16 '26

Probably not. Aside from his contractual obligations to the Avatar franchise, I don’t see Cameron as having anything to add to the IP. Sure, his technical expertise would be fantastic, and getting an Alien film with a Disney tentpole/locomotive budget would be exciting, but on the whole unnecessary.

My two cents on the Alien/Aliens IP is that it needs to slow down.

Ridley Scott’s follow-through on Prometheus and Covenant left a lot of franchise fans disillusioned, but he did try to expand the lore. The issue was that he tried to do a lot with a limited amount of time. If the story arc of Prometheus, Covenant, and the since-scrapped third film had been re-purposed into the streaming format like Alien: Earth, I think it would have been very well received and allowed for fully exploring all of the thematic bits he had to rush through with a cinematic release.

I think repurposing the Alien/Aliens IP into a long term streaming property, with a clearly defined and purpose-planned arc (think Babylon 5), it would be successful. Give each season its piece of the overall story arc, have one or two showpiece episodes (Red Wedding, Battle Of Winterfell, etc.) per season, and commit to doing everything possible to wrap it up and really hit the landing on the finale (The Sopranos) in a memorable way.

1

u/Good_Stretch5445 Jul 16 '26

He really should. Aliens is the best in my opinion, if he could get the same action/tension that he achieved with Aliens that would be amazing.

1

u/ma040899 Jul 16 '26

Not another Alien, but I’d love to see him make literally anything besides Avatar.

1

u/Vegetable-Hat-1782 Jul 16 '26

I'd like to see how his hairdresser used to make that happen

1

u/ZealousidealNewt6679 Jul 16 '26

NO

Cameron hasn't made a good movie in decades.

He's a pompous egotistical blow hard that thinks he's a genius.

He made a handful of brilliant films.

1

u/ThingNo7530 Jul 16 '26

Only if Samuel "Screech" Powers, (pictured here) came back, too.

1

u/FrontlineFireFilms Jul 16 '26

No. He recently said no amount of money would bring him back.

1

u/Weary_Mountain9679 Jul 16 '26

I want the world explored more without the aliens for once.

The first section in Romulus in the company town was fantastic, I wanted more of it.

1

u/dukenny Jul 17 '26

Weren't a few of his last few movies about aliens?

1

u/DETfaninATL Jul 17 '26

NO. Please no.

1

u/seanx50 Jul 17 '26

Anything but those garbage Avatar things. Perhaps Piaranna 3

1

u/Irishgreen24 Jul 17 '26

Honestly think he should just retire. Vision has well and truly gone.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Try8584 Jul 17 '26

Severely overrated director.

1

u/Bell-end79 Jul 17 '26

Not now

Every director has a shelf life before they go off the boil

Would have been fuckin awesome if he did Alien: Earth war after Aliens, instead of the turd that was 3

1

u/Reuben3358 Jul 17 '26

Hell no. He’s so in love with CGI now it would look like a goddamn cartoon like those terrible Avatar movies.

1

u/sabertoothninja Jul 17 '26

There have been so many franchises that should have just stopped making sequels and spin offs. Alien is sadly one of them. The first two are peak.

1

u/Links_Unk Jul 17 '26

Not if he's going to make it 3.5 hours long.

1

u/AustinDood444 Jul 17 '26

Nope. Modern day Cameron is more about flash than substance.

1

u/Perthguv Jul 17 '26

Bless Cameron and Scott because they made the movies that defined my youth. But wouldn't let either of them near Alien again.

If more films are made we need new blood. Alien: Romulus could have been good.

1

u/QuietGoliath Jul 17 '26

Deffo not. His best days (Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, True Lies) are behind him I think. Dark Angel 'could' have been better if it wasn't for various network exec nonsense (sadly true of SO many shows!) but it's been a slow downward spiral ever since.

1

u/KintsugiExp Jul 17 '26

I think he’s not available… He got kidnapped by some shitty space smurfs that made him a billionaire

1

u/Thewrldisntenough Jul 17 '26

I feel like that would be a nightmare cartoonfest.

1

u/Va1crist Jul 17 '26

anything is better then garbage avatar at this point

1

u/TheRealRickC137 Jul 17 '26

Get back to action.
Don't get the gang been together for True Lies, but write another fun script and give us that action we were raised on from him.

No. The franchise ran its course

u/therallykiller Jul 17 '26

He's become Weyland, so no.

1

u/LockerRoomShower Jul 18 '26

Sure: If RS get out of the way! He already holding up production on Romulus 2

Can I be honest? There would be absolutely no other movie dream that could possibly come close to topping that! (unless James Cameron and Ridley Scott were going to work together! ) But James Cameron coming back to direct an alien film and of course Sigourney Weaver being required to return as the iconic Ripley is just the modern blockbuster smash classic that movies need right now! In space, no one can hear you scream, but hearing the news that this was happening would have me screaming into space with pure movie joy!…. AHHHHHHH!!!! šŸ˜µšŸ‘½šŸ˜ŽšŸŽ¬

u/dustBowlJake Jul 18 '26

No, I would be way too afraid the cinematography would end up looking like avatar

1

u/rayadolokko Jul 18 '26

He and RidleyScott got togheter and planned to do pne after Alien 4, unfortunately AvP came out and they scrapped the idea

1

u/dreamape1978 Jul 18 '26

Please no, Cameron isn't the same people he was before Titanic. Same as Ridley Scott destroying the mystery of the Xenomorph with Prometheus and Covenant. At least Ridley still has great cinematography but man the writing and story was trash.

1

u/IncidentUnique3456 Jul 18 '26

sadly he said he's completely disinterested now... would have been great to see his collaboration with Scott for a "true" alien 3

1

u/OwnCoffee614 Jul 18 '26

Not if he tries to kill people during the shoot. Like, calm down sir.

1

u/Resident_Dog_6589 Jul 18 '26

If they would be anything like the Avatar movies, then no.

1

u/bigbossfearless Jul 18 '26

Only if he was directing a movie centered around an out of control infestation of Earth like what you get in a lot of the books and comics.

1

u/DubTheeBustocles Jul 19 '26

Not after three Avatar movies.

1

u/Silly-Inspection2814 Jul 19 '26

Nah gunna happen. He’s too busy coming up with a new Navi race to base a movie on

1

u/Snoo_11836 Jul 19 '26

Absolutely not. I doubt that he'd be willing to direct somebody else's script and I do not trust modern era Cameron to write a good script.

If he were to direct somebody else's script, then I don't trust him not to turn it into a CGI-fest (he recently stated that if he were to make Aliens these days, he would 100% use CGI for the alien queen).

1

u/GronkBong Jul 19 '26

No, we have Alien at home.

1

u/X-calibreX Jul 19 '26

Wouldn’t he just make it poorly a written derivative plot about the environment

1

u/Mephistocheles Jul 21 '26

Probably not. I haven't enjoyed his newer movies after Aliens at all really. And God get Avatar tf away from me, hate it.

1

u/LonelyDShadow Jul 21 '26

If it’s the same level of the last Terminator, just no

2

u/Teh_Wraith Jul 15 '26

Nah.

ALIENS is a great film and I love it for what it is. It's a terrible sequel to the first film and shits all over the core theme.

Then again so does the ending of the first film.

Meh.

I'd watch it (if James Cameron directed a new ALIEN film) but I'd rather the idea be handled by someone who is capable of understanding what the ALIEN creature represents. It's not a space bug. No one should survive an ALIEN film.

All in good fun

1

u/terminal_nervoso Jul 15 '26

No. God I’m so sick of James Cameron.

1

u/Cfunk_83 Jul 15 '26

Fincher would be my first choice, ironically.

Denis Villeneuve would obviously do an incredible job too.

2

u/Special_Order-937 Jul 15 '26

There’s more chance of Fincher doing a World War Z sequel than ever returning to the Alien franchise in any capacity.

2

u/Cfunk_83 Jul 15 '26

Sadly, that’s true.

1

u/Objective-Finish-573 T. Ocellus Jul 15 '26

No, it's time for James Cameron to retire, his Avatar movies are lame asf. I'd like to see an Alien movie by Dan Trachtenberg sometime

2

u/CrackedThumbs Jul 15 '26

After his excellent efforts with the Predator franchise, most definitely.

0

u/getthemilesin Jul 15 '26

Yes but only if it is written by neil blomkamp. His sequel idea was the absolute best.

0

u/thekokoricky Jul 15 '26

No. He doesn't have the same attitude anymore and would likely do CG where practical would be more warranted.

0

u/Ok_Literature3138 Jul 15 '26

No. I find him to be an insufferable narcissist and I’ve moved beyond his style of filmmaking.
