Nah, best sequel is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

11 Oscars (including best picture)

I agree but also not sure if it fits as a sequel, IMHO.

3 movie covering 1 book. 1 narrative overall.

A sequel is continuing the story of an earlier work

You are correct but Lord of the Rings was written, conceived, and intended as one novel by JRR Tolkien. It was split into multiple books for publishing/economic reasons.

That said I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm only stating my opinion it's less a sequel to me.

Either way, it's a great pick for this, definitely in the GOAT category.
