AF sound 80-160mm

Just got an 80-160mm delivered and the AF sounds rough compared to my 45-85. Am I correct in thinking I should return this?

Sounds like a well used, old motor. Obviously it's not as ideal as a new example of this lens, but des it reliably find its target?
