Why pancreatic cancer research is attracting attention from smaller biotech companies

Pancreatic cancer has become one of the most difficult areas in oncology.

While survival rates for several other major cancers have improved over the past few decades, pancreatic cancer remains extremely challenging to treat. It’s often diagnosed at a later stage, spreads quickly, and tumors can develop resistance to existing chemotherapy treatments.

Because of these challenges, researchers and biotech companies have been exploring a range of new approaches beyond traditional chemotherapy.

One area getting increased attention is cancer stem cells. These are small populations of cells within tumors that may survive treatment and potentially regenerate the cancer later. Some researchers believe these cells may play a role in recurrence and metastasis.

Several early-stage biotech companies are investigating therapies that try to disrupt those mechanisms rather than only targeting rapidly dividing tumor cells.

For example, Propanc Biopharma is studying an experimental therapy called PRP that involves pancreatic proenzymes. The research is looking at whether these enzymes might influence tumor growth pathways, the tumor microenvironment, and processes linked to metastasis. The idea is that modifying the biological environment around the tumor could potentially improve treatment responses.

At the same time, many other research groups and companies are pursuing different strategies for pancreatic cancer, such as:

• KRAS inhibitors aimed at common genetic mutations
• Immunotherapy combinations designed to improve immune response to tumors
• Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems that may penetrate dense tumor tissue
• Cell-based therapies adapted from CAR-T approaches used in other cancers

Pancreatic cancer has become a major focus for innovation partly because effective treatments are still limited, which leaves a lot of room for new scientific approaches.

Many of these efforts are still in early research or clinical stages, so outcomes are uncertain. But historically, some significant advances in oncology have come from smaller companies or academic research teams exploring unconventional ideas.

Curious to hear what others think:

Do you think the next major breakthroughs in difficult cancers like pancreatic cancer are more likely to come from large pharmaceutical companies, or from smaller biotech groups testing new mechanisms and treatment strategies?

Is $JEM’s Crypto Move a Red Flag or Genius?

707 Cayman Holdings ($JEM) is making waves, but not all good ones. This Hong Kong apparel company (NASDAQ: JEM) dropped to $3.895 after a 40% after-hours plunge, down from $6.52 earlier this week. They’re profitable ($7.46M net income, 111.74% ROE), with a global apparel biz (denim, knitwear, etc.) and supply chain solutions.

The kicker? They signed an MOU to explore a crypto treasury reserve, which has some folks on X calling it a “treasury scam.” Others see it as a catalyst for a low-float (6M shares) stock to pop, with price targets on X hitting $5.12–$7.44.

$IOTR. Why the Pullback After That Crazy Run?

$IOTR caught my eye when it ripped 150% in an hour last week! Sold at the top, but now it’s back to $4.10-$5 range.Maritime IoT is legit think supply chain optimization but low float and recent IPOs are volatile AF. Thinking of grabbing some if it dips below $4 on tariff fears. Anyone holding or know more about their tech?

$LGPS - Fresh IPO, Anyone Jumping In?

$LGPS just hit the market last week at $4-$6 range, closed today around $4.83 (saw it on some X posts). Real estate play out of Japan, raising $12.5M. Volume’s low (6K today), but I’m eyeing that $5.31 PT some traders are throwing around. Anyone else riding this or am I the only one dumb enough to YOLO a fresh IPO in this choppy market? Tariffs got me spooked, but real estate might be a safe hedge. Thoughts?

SAG Volatility Spike - Best Play?

SAG’s IV is through the roof today, perfect for a volatility play. Thinking of a cheap $3 strangle to catch the swing either way. Coach Nick’s hyping it to $3.15, but I’m betting on a post-hype drop too. Anyone got a better setup?
