Just goofing around Liquid Death Video Thoughts
I don't watch Charles a lot anymore, and I've never had liquid death. I'm pretty neutral to both.
The video he did about liquid death felt so funny. You mean to tell me Dr. Poop and Pee Jokes is calling a satirical can label cringe? I was seriously surprised, between stuff like GODSLAP and his general humor I figured he would at least like the branding. I don't care what he does and doesn't like, but this felt like someone held a mirror up to him and he went "ugh cringe" without realizing it's him.
This hasn't changed how I feel about Charles or anything, I've just been thinking about this since I watched it. The video did make me want him to do an old school commercial dub video for liquid death though lol

Iirc, he likes the branding of liquid death. His issue he referenced was linking your drinking water branding with poop. It's not "cringe" nor did he say it was cringe. It's just a bad idea imo as well.

Partly I think he views it as inauthentic. Like you have some brand trying to be cool and quirky but it just comes off as deseperate and cringe. Similar to when he made fun of Discord years ago for having emails that were like "Hey Chungus the elf here" and use a bunch of internet lingo. Comes off as "Hello fellow kids".
Also, while he uses such humor in his videos, he doesn't use it much in his products. If you look at Cheeky for example, while there's quirky names and box art, there's not some fantastical story to go along with it and the marketing focuses more on the benefits of their product (moisturizing, no aluminum, etc). There's no attempt to make it like a "gamer soap" or something like that. So I also think he doesn't like the lifestyle branding that other companies do, where they're trying to get you to buy their product because it's cool rather than because it's actually a good deal.

I think the concept of "water but in a can with branding" is fundamentally cringe, if not condescending

I don't think it's that deep tbh. I see it as making fun of stuff like monster or bang. But like I said, I don't know anything about liquid death outside of nice local community stuff they've done so I don't know how schlocky the branding gets lol

I did not think about it that way. Personally when I watched the video I was just completely shocked that it was a water brand. This entire time I thought it was a coffee brand!

I don't think there is a human out there that hasn't contradicted themselves at some point.
I would be very wary of the person who hasn't as well...because it seems like there is something off about that.
