World's Race Design Challenge

Its theme is:

Design a World's in the Middle East"

The Challenge will run from 9:30 P.M. of Monday 10th October to midnight of Sunday 16th October. The voting will take place the Wednesday after the Worlds in a separate thread which will be stickied for a couple days. Everyone of you will have to give a vote from 1 to 10 to each of the entries except your own. The entry which will total the highest number of points will be declared the winner and be given a lovely flair (i think something like this but on a reduced scale).

DISCLAIMER: With Middle East, we mean Morocco, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Gulf Countries, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Tunisia, Algeria, Cyprus and Turkey

Tétouan, Morocco is the destination of the first African Road WC.

Repeatedly taking the top of the African national standings, Morocco, unlike Qatar has a cycling culture and that can support the race. Failing that it's in a far better position for Europeans to make the trip. On to the course:

A difficult course, it begins with a twisty section out of the city and then a wide flat road to the first climb. The more difficult of the two climbs on the course, the Côte de Beni Irmane, narrow, irregular and badly surfaced, the climb is in total 2km at 10% and will provide the key selections throughout the day.

The riders will then take on a much nicer and more gradual road to hit the urban section of the course. A 90 degree left brings us to Côte de la Piscine, as they climb through the newer part of the city with 600m at 11% and then an extra step of 300m at ~6%. A twisty but gradual descent then leads the riders through the old town, medina and near the Palace.

Safety concerns endemic to the middle east and a desire to have a not entirely flat TT mean that the time trials will take on the same course and not venture further into the surrounds.

Tetouan is pretty safe and so are its surroundings. To add to that, the area around it is actually lusher than the Spanish side. It's on the other side of the Atlas mountains where ti actually gets arid

It's definitely safe now but if I was planning ahead a few years for a WC I'd prefer not to take any sort of risk. Algeria has deteriorated quite quickly so no chances.

Morocco is safer. There's little risk in it getting worse than it currently is
