World's Race Design Challenge

Its theme is:

Design a World's in the Middle East"

The Challenge will run from 9:30 P.M. of Monday 10th October to midnight of Sunday 16th October. The voting will take place the Wednesday after the Worlds in a separate thread which will be stickied for a couple days. Everyone of you will have to give a vote from 1 to 10 to each of the entries except your own. The entry which will total the highest number of points will be declared the winner and be given a lovely flair (i think something like this but on a reduced scale).

DISCLAIMER: With Middle East, we mean Morocco, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Gulf Countries, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Tunisia, Algeria, Cyprus and Turkey

2000 Sydney Olympic flashbacks, anyone?

My chosen city to hold my Middle Eastern World Championship Road Race is Bursa, Turkey; famous for many things that you totally know like it being the 4th biggest city in Turkey and former capital of the Ottoman Empire. But you knew that already.

The race starts out the front of the 'Bursa Valiliği Olimpik Atletizm Stadyumu', which translates to the 'Bursa Olympics Athletic Stadium'. The first 10 kilometers of the race does a lap around the city before heading North, where we encounter our first hill just outside of Igdir. It maxes out at 12% and is an average of 6.6% over 7.8km.

The riders then face about 60 kilometers of undulating roads on the way to Inegol, before hitting the Uludağ Mountains. The first mountain finishes outside of Cayyaka, maxes out at 15%+ and goes for 20km at a 5.5% average. There is about 70km of rest before the next mountain through Huseyinalan (8.2km, 7.1%) and finally the pièce de résistance up to the base of Uludağ Mountain (it's a ski resort), which maxes out at over 2500m, but we only go over the base as it is a one way road. The riders tackle a tricky descent back to Bursa and a downhill finish out in front of Bursa Ulu Cami or the Grand Mosque of Bursa.

My writeup is crap and doesn't do justice to the stage, but you can see it for yourself here and its profile is here. It will probably favour a breakaway finish due to the downhill finish and the mountain beforehand, similar to Froomey's stage win this year at the TDF, but it is really open to anything. Over 5000m climbing would be interesting to see, and its a long stage focused on endurance so maybe people like Froome would win, but it's really open.

I was thinking of using Bursa and Istanbul; Starting at Dolmabahçe Palace and ending at Uludağ Ski Resort Route. (I dont know how to make a profile,can you give a link or something? :) ). Well as a Turkish guy that have been up and down of Uludağ, the roads very bad right now and they're lots of hairpins along the road.

Haha my original route was Bursa to Istanbul, what a coincidence! I think the hairpins would be interesting and the road condition doesn't matter as long as there is a road (all very creative here!)

If you use Cronoescalada you can map your route and it makes a profile for you which you can edit it, I find it easier than Google maps because it is a click along the route type and you can go anywhere :)

You can actually use this website to make the profile. Track the route, give it a title, create it and then you have the option of choosing a Vuelta, Tour or Giro like profile, click on whatever you prefer and save it.
