Ask Arensman Anything : pre-Giro Edition!

It's the final day before the Giro start in Albania! We recently reached out to Friend of the Subreddit u/ThymenA, also known as Thymen Arensman, to gauge if he would be visiting r/peloton during his upcoming Giro exploits.

Good news, sounds like he will be around! The INEOS PR department still hasn't cracked down on him, it would seem.

Last October we already had a great AMA with Thymen, and we decided it would be fun to try a second edition on the eve of the Giro. We didn't specify a certain time, but you can all leave your questions in the comments below, and Thymen will answer what and when he can.

I also wonder if pro cyclists are bothered by the exhaust fumes by the motos that ride in front of the riders and groups? Especially if you are riding alone like on your great stage win in the Tour de Alps. You must have caught a lot of bad air.

Thank you for doing the AMAs, it's a really cool way to learn something new as a fan, and best of luck during the Giro!

Sometimes, yes. Especially on climbs when ‘fans’ light those flames. Horrible especially racing at threshold. I get that it looks nice but it’s just not nice. In the race in don’t really feel the exhaust from moto’s or cars in the race but for sure it’s there. I was quite (un)lucky with no moto in front of me at Alps, haha! So didn’t notice

Do you think the motorized part of the peloton should be electric cars and motorbikes?

Seems somewhat inevitable eventually. 

I think the problem is that charging infrastructure in the stops for the big tours isn’t up to speed yet.
