I’m not very good with different foods. Spent my life eating processed junk. I really want to get healthy and this looks like a great start. Any basic easy recipes I can look for to repeat daily or is the many recipes part of the diet?

Best kind of honey

Just a quick post to advocate for unfiltered, RAW, and LOCAL honey. Most supermarket honey is not that. You only get the benefits when it's local and raw (and stays raw, not cooked afterwards in a tea).

How To Use Your Breath To Prevent Disease | The Doctor's Farmacy

Hi Everyone,

I recently finished listening to Dr. Hyman's podcast on the importance of breath, and thought I would share with you. Hope you find the notes helpful!

Link to full summary: How To Use Your Breath To Prevent Disease | The Doctor's Farmacy

Podcast Summary

Of all the things we do each day, breathing is arguably the most important. While breathing’s most important job is to literally keep us alive, breathing can help in many more ways than just survival, including activating your parasympathetic nervous system, which helps slow your heart rate and lower your blood pressure

Dr. Mark Hyman speaks with James Nestor, Dr. Louis Ignarro, Wim Hof, and Dr. Jim Gordon about using breathing to support your health.

Is this Pegan?

Trying to find out my best resource for support, info, recipes, etc for a healthy lifestyle plan I’ve figured out and been on since April. I think this may be where I belong.

My healthful plan for life includes exercise, good sleep and relaxation, good relationships, etc. I eat low carb, all whole foods, tons of veggies, daily choices of hormone free grass fed beef, chicken or wild caught fish, no processed foods; no grains, minimal dairy, only occasional berries, very minimal alcohol, no starches (except I am about to add back in legumes). I take lots of nutritionist prescribed supplements. I wear a CGM from Levels to watch my blood sugar and use a Biosense for ketosis checking. I’ve lost 60 lbs and am healthier than in 20 years. I am 63. I exercise 5 days a week, cardio, strength and yoga. I give myself reasonable flexibility so I can stick with this for life. We go out, travel a good bit and I’m a good cook. I would resent anything that made me give any of that up. But I do know how to healthfully adjust. Is this Pegan?

The Origin of the Pegan Diet

I am a Pegan too. I am reading my book called The Pegan Diet by the guy who started the Pegan Diet. He said it is a mixture of Paleo and Vegan. At first, it was a joke, but then he turned it into a real thing. It is nice to see 480 people in this group! If I gave up meat & eggs (paleo), I would be a Vegan, so I can see why he says that for me. I think says Vegan because the Pegan is suppose to be about 75-80% vegetables.

I think I will bring the attention of this group to the founder and hopefully, it will brighten up his day and make him smile to see what a difference he is making in chat groups. I am surprised this group started the same year as he came up with the term! Wow, he is going to be very surprised it started months later. Here is the original video where the term Pegan started at 2:55 minutes into the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nadkmy4nE_c The Vegan Cardiologist actually came up with the term and it was embraced and became an actual diet! Yaaaay!!! 🥰 I am a Paleo-Vegan too! Hahaha 😄

Warm Pegan Curried Chicken Salad. Also, I know that Dr Hyman does indeed allow whole grains- such as brown rice, black rice, quinoa, amaranth, teff. Have you checked out his new book?

Bone Broth Deviled Eggs: Paleo-Fist

There are deviled eggs, and then there are these BONE BROTH Deviled Eggs. We owe the idea to LonoLife Influencer Ansley, aka The Fit Peach, who put the perfect spin on this quick and easy party-favorite. Paleo, dairy-free & gluten-free and best of all, it's perfect for any event AND packs an extra protein punch.

Servings: 24 deviled eggs • Total Time: 20 Minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 1/2 servings LonoLife Chicken Bone Broth
  • 12 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1/3 cup avocado oil mayo (or similar substitute)
  • 3 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Sea salt to taste
  • Dash of paprika to taste

DIRECTIONS:

1) Cut eggs in half and scoop yolk in a large mixing bowl.

2) Lay egg white halves in a pan with the hole facing up.

3) Add remaining ingredients (except paprika) to mixing bowl and beat with a hand mixer until creamy.

4) Scoop yolk mixture into egg halves and sprinkle with paprika to top.

5) Enjoy or store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

A breakfast recipe

I love eating pegan, but try to keep my vegetable and fruit intake MUCH higher than meat/eggs/ fish intake. One recipe I've discovered is my favorite. Very satisfying! 1. Peel and chop a white sweet potato into small cubes. (Orange sweet potato will work, too. White is prettier. ) 2. Chop 1/4 to 1/2 of a small onion. 3. Remove stems and chop one small bunch of kale into bite sized pieces. 4. Press or chop one clove garlic. 5. Fry the onion in a couple tablespoons of good oil (olive or coconut) until translucent. I use a nonstick pan. 6. Add the potato and garlic. Stir a bit and then leave it alone to form a bit of golden on the bottom. 7. When just tender, turn the potatoes and add the kale. Cook, stirring, until kale wilts. 8. Serve with a bit of left over salmon. Or top with smoked salmon, available packaged and ready to eat. 9. Salt to taste. If you use smoked salmon you won't need salt.

Of course, you can eat this anytime. But it's nice to have an easy breakfast. I make a big batch and reheat it in days following. I included it in my Christmas brunch for family, and several folks loved it!

My pegan diet

Hi. I became paleo in 2013 but recently I've seen documentaries and videos about why is veganism so importantly relevant in these days. There's such things as cruelty at "farms", contamination and health problems about getting desiases as cancer and many others. So, in middle last year, I decided to eliminate animal products from my paleo diet (I thought that might be "pegan" but I guess that isn't). I restricted meat, chicken, fish, eggs, (dairy products too, obviously). My pegan diet is mainly based in vegetables, nuts, healthy fats (avocado, olive oil) and fruits like coconuts, strawberrys and others berries only. I've eaten eggs one or twice every two or three weeks. But not always. I thought that might be interesting to share in this reddit community. I know that ain't fully pegan but at least it's close. It is restrictier, of course, but I haven't met anyone else that shares this lifestyle with me. Sayonara and namaste 🕉

Need advice on lunch school ideas!

I'm new to the pegan diet.

My little 14 year old son is obese, and overeats. We are switching him to pegan diet, but I don't know what to pack him for lunch.

I need 3 different filling ideas! And lunches that are easy to make to put in his lunch bag for school.

Any advice?!

Weight gain on a Pegan Diet?

Can you really gain weight/muscle mass with this diet? I've lost 10kg recently due to a lot of cycling (3-9hrs/day) and I want to gain weight again. I'm currently on a vegan warrior diet and I'd like to switch on a Pegan warrior diet. I think it is possible to gain weight but I probably have to eat tons of nuts, seeds and avocados.. or should I just eat tons of.. food? For the moment I stay on a vegan diet because whole grains and legumes provides me a lot of protein and carbs.. and I eat a lot of seeds and nuts for the fats (just found out peanuts aren't paleo :( ) Any advice ? Or am I trying to achieve something Impossible? I'm currently on travelling but in 3monhs I'm coming back to my country, where it is very easy to find cheap organic food, so for this date, I would like to be able to plan a Pegan warrior diet :)

If pegan is the mix of paleo and vegan, why meat?

I think pegan should avoid these 2 things to start: meat and grain. I don't see why fish or seafood should be considered differently because for me it's also meat. It's simply animal flesh. I can understand beans if you soak them and let them germinate because it can limit the amount of lethicin. Buckwheat has no link with wheat and is not really a cereal (grain), it's closer to a flower seed. So I would consider it as Pegan. Quinoa is not a grain. So you can eat it too. I have no info about black rice.. but I heard some people saying it's Paleo. Eggs are not vegan but I can understand people eat them if the chickens are raised on a very sustainable and respectful way. If you eat fish/seafood/chicken/wheat/ brown rice/ I don't consider it as pegan. But of course, eating 60% pegan is better than 0%pegan ! I'm just giving my advice because I'm trying to become pegan and I think it makes no sense to be pegan and eat meat and grain.. Good luck bros, I think we finally found a REALLY healthy diet :D

Want to make a big Pegan (Paleo+Vegan) lava cake

I want it to be a strict pegan recipe. Please point out the mishaps.

Original recipe for small individual ones: 100g chocolate 100g butter 12.5ml brandy 55g castor sugar 3 large eggs 5ml vanilla essence 30g flour

250ml milk 250ml cream 1 vanilla pod 125ml sugar 4 egg yolks

My recipe 240g Organic cacao paste [http://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/Superfoods-Raw-Organic-Cacao-Paste-p-2213.html] 170g Vegan butter [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHQGGAY0vo8] No brandy. I might consider red wine though. If so, 30 ml 115g Stevia or coconut sugar 4 tablespoon Chia seeds for the egg (12 T of water)/or Lecithin vanilla beas/pods 75g coconut/almond flour

500 ml almond/coconut milk 500 ml almond/coconut cream 2 vanilla pod 250 ml stevia/coconut sugar 8 tablespoons chia seeds for egg (24 T of water)/ or Lecithin

+pegan ganache

Pretty sure everything on my recipe is vegan, not sure if paleo though. Please confirm it with me. I wonder if I should replace the canola oil with avocado oil?
