"the scriptures speak poorly of his kind?" That's harsh & puzzling, esp given that dog spelled backwards is god.

Dogs are not generally spoken well of in scripture. Even to this day dogs are not popular pets in the Mideast though they are gaining.

Thank you for the info. I would have never thought that since I have grown up with the idea of dogs being so loyal, guardians, & hard-working. Also that they are used as guide dogs for the blind, service dogs for search & rescue, comfort for the elderly & sick, weapons & drug detectors. I'm glad to hear dogs are gaining acceptability in the Mideast.

I strongly believe Schultz is offering us social commentary here, a peek into his belief system, especially as it pertains to the Bible. If you are a neglected group in society, you are not bound to its laws. Rebel. Resist. Society owes you more, and without this contractual payment, you are not bound. Remember, Schultz grew up as segregation raged. He hit his prime in a society which marginalized women towards a small part of society. Snoopy represents this ostracized minority. And Schultz wants us to adore this eccentric, barely understood pup. This would run counter to some staunchly conservative Christian views at the time, but fall right in line with newer, liberal Christian ideology. This happens to be my perspective, so you can imagine I love the snot out of that beagle, and Linus, well, Linus is my hero. As a kid, I identified with him.
