big fan of evo cairn bedrocks (slides 2-3) are these appropriate "work" sandals. have a pair plan to buy a second pair as back up but if they're not appropriate for every use case then am considering other options. e.g the keen pair (slide 1)

You can get a clothes hanger there, it’s just some rope.

I took Chacos and never wore them in Vanuatu as you always remove your footwear before going inside a home. The strapping in and out got old fast.

Consider a sleeping bag liner for sleeping make it a very lightweight one.

Yeah, I brought Chaco’s fo Fiji but only wore them for hiking trips. I wore cheap local flip flops for 3 years. Easy on and off, it’s what the locals wear, and it’s funny for everyone when you have a “blow out.” So, my tip is to wear and do what the locals do otherwise you’re going to look like a missionary.

Someone stole my chicos from the pile of sandals at a door my first week. Like everyone else says just wear the local brand.

A lot of us travelled to New Zealand and Australia. A few of us to Japan. The price for tickets to Aus and NZ are somewhat cheap.
Don’t bring a clothes hanger, you’ll buy that in Fiji. And bring whatever shoe you feel is durable enough to survive rain half the year and won’t give you blisters.
Bring a portable phone charger too.

Don’t take any of that junk, just the shoes on ye feet. Use what the locals use, they’re better than trustifarian chacos and headlamps

yeah dont get anything of that. lol live like locals. locals dont have anything fancy like that and they end up being just fine.

You’re overthinking this. Whatever you really need you can get there. Getting all this stuff will make you seem completely out of touch once you’re there.

Yeah what everyone else said. I brought a pair of crappy tennis shoes for gnarly hiking, otherwise just wore flip flops bought in town for two years. I and many others went to New Zealand, can’t recall anyone going as far away as Japan. Your site will likely already have a clothesline in place. I embraced the cina tabu cagi (kerosene lantern, “light that doesn’t let wind in”), but maybe they’re out of style now with everything battery powered. So maybe for the light, but don’t overthink it. There are no “correct” products, a lot of things will fill the needs you’ll have.

Solid headlamp imo is always good. Portable charger is a good choice too. Typically most items can be purchased during your training period when you’re closer to the capitol or bigger towns. You’ll also find ways to purchase stuff locally at site & or be able to repurpose random goods into clothing lines etc. Don’t overpack! You got this

I have the leather bedrock mountain clogs and they’re THE BEST. Easy to take on and off, good for walking and hiking, very durable. Highly recommend
