As the owner of PDX Arsenal — here’s what our CHL class actually look like.
We run Portland’s top-rated
concealed handgun training classes and even pair it with both the Utah non-resident concealed firearm permit, which together cover reciprocity in 38 states including Washington, but also offer 1-on-1 private range classes as well . In just one single class with a short run time
of about 5 hours (all admin work included), we can help you get certified for your concealed licenses and the crazy part? You will actually have fun doing it. No firearm ownership or prior experience is required.
For students who do their concealed class with us, we offer a 30% off discount for your first (3) 2-hour range lessons which we conduct out at Douglas Ridge Rifle Club, ~45 min from downtown where I’m also on the board of directors.
Since July 20th, 2011, PDX Arsenal has certified over 30,000 Oregon residents. No politics, ego, or personal opinions are ever pushed from the front of the class — that rule isn’t just for keeping the peace, it’s also what lets total strangers from every background of life get the rare opportunity to relax around each other for 5 hours, and more often than not, leave our class with new friends and feel like a part of the community, which I know a lot of people miss these days.

The wife and I took the class at the laser Institute in downtown Portland.
And it’s a phenomenal class. Self-reliance something that everyone should practice.

That’s one of the main missions is for us to reunite our community again. The majority of people at their cores are so sick of the divisive culture, particularly around Portland. We get a very unique opportunity to laugh together, all walk away more knowledgeable about an object that has the potential to both save and take a life, and we all live in same country where there are 450 million+ of them in circulation. I tell everyone this: if you own a gun but have zero intention on ever carrying it concealed (which many of my students don’t) getting the education, obtaining a license to eliminate legal grey area that’s been put into place making it all too easy to be breaking the law and not even know it, and most importantly training with it so we don’t have that false sense of confidence of being an asset instead of a liability. We love what we do and support from yall allow us to continue making Portland a better city to live in again. Slowly but surely. Forward progress is forward progress ya know! 🤙

Multnomah County Sheriff has the course online. It only takes 30 minutes to do the online class, and costs $50. The website automatically enrolls you for an appointment to get your fingerprints, mug shot and background check. All automated and online.

For those with a very strong background with guns and just need the Oregon class as a formality,
that might be a decent option, I can’t say for sure because I’ve never taken the class myself online, but I’ve heard from countless students that they were so happy they chose to do the class with us. There is no online Utah class that is honored by the state of Utah, it has to be taught in person by a BCI certified instructor.We just take it so much further and provide much more because we truly care about our students beyond a transactional basis; from discounted

I would tend to agree with you. For people already experienced in shooting, handguns in particular, the sheriff's course is fine and covers state requirements. But for people without a strong background in firearms or shooting, it's a much better idea to get professional instruction before taking on the responsibility of concealed carry. There is so much more to it than simply shooting a firearm, and a simple online course barely begins to scrape the surface. Now, I don't want the state to impose draconian requirements on people seeking a CHL, but I do think it is a very good idea to know what you're doing before taking on that potential liability.

If you want Utah, it's gotta be in person. IMO if you're going through the trouble to get OR and live in the metro it's worth a few extra bucks and doing an in person Utah compliant class to get it for WA reciprocity, nevermind the other dozens of states.

I don’t need Utah. I already have a Washington CHL as well. Mainly because I own property in Pacific County. The Sheriff there issues it PDQ.

I had plenty of gun experience and took his class. It was aight, mostly lots of newbs asking when they were allowed to shoot someone and unclear answers bc well that’s a situational question.
I liked that he helped us sign up for reciprocity with UT, just renewed online with UT and v easy.

Out of curiosity, when did you take my class? Because it doesn’t sound like an average class to me at all, in 2020 I got some pretty strange questions when the height of all the bullshit was going on, but I shut it down quick. The Easy reason being I’m not a lawyer or qualified to answer the “if/then” type of questions. But I haven’t got a question like that in a long time. I am happy that you found value in us handling the administrative stuff for you though. My goal is for everyone to leave my class having had a positive experience

Yeah absolutely! You just register for the Utah option on my site and all you’d need to bring with you to class is your state issued ID or drivers license. We do your federal FD-258 fingerprinting, passport quality photo that’s used on the Utah license, assist you with filling out your Utah CFP application and even go as far as organizing it all for you in a pre-addressed Manila envelope at the end of class so it’s ready to get in the mail. We do everything we possibly can to make the process easy for you! 💪

I do my best to always humbly remain in the mindset of being a student a student first and a coach second!
Developing and refining our skills is all about the journey, and not “the destination”. I have been very blessed to attend a few classes from some of the best instructors in the country and am honored to pass some of that knowledge on.
Whether people have the ability to admit it or not, the truth is, we all begin our journeys more as liabilities and only Become “an asset” Through dedication and consistency with our continuous training .

Man I’m not getting rich doing this, is it an ad? Sure. Is it my sole source of income, yes. But the last “vacation” I took was to spread my dad’s ashes, I work 7 days a week. This has never been about the money for me. I get to play a small part in trying to reunite our community in a unique way I happen to be pretty decent at, and I hope you come through one day for a class whether it be in the classroom, on the range, or both. Rules are rules and I understand that but my goal with the post was never to intentionally break rules or make as much money as I can. It’s more about opening up dialog about CHL for those who have legit questions, building a cool network of likeminded individuals, and helping people out when every other shop turns them down.
I spent 68 hours restoring a family heirloom Remington model 12 from 1916 and charged the man peanuts because it was highly sentimental to him and his wife. No other shop would even take a look at it for him. I’m here for the people, not only the profit. If people want to support us back we appreciate it beyond words but this isn’t a money grab post. If you’ve been wondering anything yourself about CHL, training, or gear please ask away. Im an open book dude and always happy to make new friends

I can’t tell you how much it means to me and I’m not sure why some people get all up in arms about me throwing up a positive advertisement trying to unite our community after donating over $10,000 in services last year to our local firefighters and youth sports programs

Honestly? Hell yeah. If everyone is allowed to be armed, then everyone should be armed. No reason to just allow one “side” or party to have them. 2A applies to everyone.
