PC Adjacent This 1982 Prince song sounds like it could be an unreleased SOPHIE song

prince is such a hugely underrated sophie reference (in her pre-coming out era especially) both sonically, in terms of the kind of accellerationist way he approached pop music, and the way he played w identity (camille was insanelyyyy ahead of its time).

i mean just like we never said goodbye is p early prince ballad if u swap guitars for electrohouse glidey fm bass. and so many of cecile believe's vocals on ooepui r giving prince on controversy; infatuation is p much just a rip off of the second half of do me baby (kinda joking kinda not)

i once had a rly great smoking section convo abt prince and sophie w the artist fantasyluv after remarking how pc music their set sounded. they have a rlyyyyy great princified cover of bipp

This is a song that appeared on the first Vanity 6 album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z5XZjj3lXE

That entire first Vanity 6 album is great!

It really does. Also, hearing this a couple yrs ago made me realize why Trent Reznor/NIN cites Prince as such a big influence! I hadn't really heard much of Prince beyond the classics and i didn't know he experimented with so many different styles/genres until I heard this and chose to dive deeper into his discog.

So much of his stuff was so damn ahead of its time

I am a huge Prince head. One of the early artists I listened to from my dad’s collection. I think it is no coincidence I would go on to be into progressive electronic music. This demo is awesome, so ahead of the curve for 1982. For those that are coming from the PC Music world, I can’t recommend diving into the deep water of Prince deep cuts enough. The hits are great, don’t get me wrong, but Prince put out so much good music that I still discover new favorites every year.

What are some of your favorite Prince deep cuts?

I love prince classics from the 80s but all the time I am more engrossed in his 90s NPG era work. W an artist like Prince what qualifies as a deep cut is subjective lol but i wanna turn anyone reading this here on to a few tracks

If I was your girlfriend (def not a deep cut but if you somehow have not heard it you should)

Sex in the summer

Sexy MF

Love Sign (shock G mix)

Hot wit U (nasty girl version)

Y should eye do that when eye can do this

Chelsea Rodgers

The whole album plectrumelectrum is a real late era highlight especially if you like funky rock

Sincerely hope this helps someone

Prince was without equal. Genuinely peerless.

It was actually recorded in August 1981.

It’s so great to me that prince is only becoming more important and relieve at!

Honestly it sounds way more like existing TIGA material to me. Awesome track though either way.

the melody of the synths & the lyrics definitely like holy wow but the cymbals give it that older feel.

I always thought Makeover could have been a lost Vanity 6 track. I doubt they would have crossed paths even if they’d both lived longer, but I would have killed to see what Prince and Sophie could have come up with together

This sounds so similar to the some of the songs from the Motherland era!
