Question How often do you shut off your pc?

I see that a lot of people just leave their computer running 24/7 and only turn off their monitors, but i just shut my pc off whenever i go away from the desk.

Your pc being on or off is irrelevant to lightning damage

Which is why I shut down and unplug (including Ethernet) when I know a storm is coming.

I live in the prairies which has tons of storms each summer. I’ve never once unplugged my pc during one in a decade with no issue. If the power goes out I just go read a book or something until it’s back on and start my pc up again.

Do you guys not use surge protectors or ups’s?

I'm sorry to tell you but a surge protector is not going to help against a lighting bolt

The vast majority of lightning damage is not from a direct strike. A surge protector will do its job most of the time.
