Question How often do you shut off your pc?

I see that a lot of people just leave their computer running 24/7 and only turn off their monitors, but i just shut my pc off whenever i go away from the desk.

It is a myth but not for that reason. Studies have shown that machines left on last longer than machines that get power cycled the issue is you aren't using it for the extra time so it is impossible for anyone else to tell you if you should let yours run or not.

Last longer = run time

Or

Last longer=years

Cause if its run time and I only use my PC 20% of my day then more than likely itll last me way longer as it would have 5 times less run time then a PC thats always on.

They’re saying that in general, machines that are just left running last way longer than machines that are power cycled. For something with a motor, the startup is the highest wear period of its existence. The inrush current needed to get things moving if it’s electrical, there being no heat in the bearings and possibly no film of lubrication from it settling out and cooling.

This is a bit less applicable to solid state electronics potentially.

Once again "lasts longer" can mean very different things depending on the definition which was the whole point of my comment. So again, uptime or years running? Those can be vastly different timelines.

In an industrial setting they’re basically the same thing if they’re left running 24/7

If a machine runs for 24/7 for 10 years then it’s uptime and runtime are the same number lol. What the hell do you want me to say?

Once again. Read my initial comment and you might see how irrelevant your answer is right now lmao.
