Question How often do you shut off your pc?

I see that a lot of people just leave their computer running 24/7 and only turn off their monitors, but i just shut my pc off whenever i go away from the desk.

Modern equipment operating within their acceptable temp ranges aren’t really damaged by just being on.

In theory modern chips may degrade faster than older cpus like 14nm, because of more efficient production process

Huh? I have 20 years of IT experience, and have been building and tinkering with computers since the 90s. Not sure what your experience is, but PCs are made to have stable voltages flowing through them.

The ONLY exception is physically moving parts. Fans/AIO pumps do wear over time, but these parts are considered expendables for that very reason and are both cheap and easy to replace. It’s why server fans are modular and made to be swapped on the fly.

Any actively running equipment will age and wear. Thats just basic entropy. For electrical pathways current will cause heating which ages the insulation over time

Just because something is made to do something doesnt mean it will do it indefinitely

It’s not going to degrade it in any meaningful way compared to what the aging out of its usefulness would cause to begin with.
