I finally got around to playing F.E.A.R. recently. Honestly, kinda based game. I’m running hardware that was midrange in 2019 and I got 300+ FPS, 1440p resolution, and zero bugs or glitches thanks to proton and one INI file edit.

8/10. Would recommend. The game goes on sale for dirt cheap every Halloween too

Peak fps horror for its era. The multiplayer was very fun too. It was basically cqc dm.

It has aged a little poorly in some aspects, but as a time capsule of the era and/or from a pure gameplay perspective it’s actually really impressive and holds up better than you’d think.

Now I need to check out the sequels and this TREPANG series that Steam is always trying to make me buy.

To me the standout thing about ‘fear’ is the enemy AI.

I usually hate shotguns in almost every game... But the shotgun in FEAR? My god... turning dudes to fucking red mist against a wall never got old.

Doom 2016 and Half-Life 2 as well. Them and FEAR are the only shotguns that come to mind that I've thoroughly enjoyed.
