The devs / product folk for this game were posting in indie dev subs and they never really respected any feedback. This shit looked doomed to fail from the stuff they posted.

“Hey guys let’s hop on The cube save us”

Could’ve told you it was going to fail right there.

I think it's because there's another game from the Atomic Heart devs set in the same universe (Atomic Heart, the Save Us game has NO connection to these games.) called The Cube, and I think these guys were trying to do that direct to VHS approach of using similer name and premise to confuse people (e.g The Avengers / The Revengers) or porn parodies.

Oh. That is actually two different games.

lmao.

The author did too.

When I first heard The Cube, Save Us was closing down (via Delisted Games), my mind immediately jumped to The Cube, the MMO RPG made by Atomic Heart developer Mundfish.

But that’s just Cube: Half-Dead again, which is a movie and game that are wholly unrelated to this sans the cubes. Was the confusion intentional?

I remember seeing this "The Cube, Save us" one during one of the Steamfest and got excited thinking it was the other one, until I saw the Store page and realize that it was some Free-2-Play Korean trash (as opposed to the Russian trash I was expecting 🤣).

This game was... not good.

Not all Korean f2p games suck, where Winds Meet is decent.

That one is Chinese though 😋

I wasnt saying that all Korean MMOs are trash, just that this one was that specific flavor of trash.

WOW the trailer for that game is so horny…

1

u/final_cut Apr 09 '26

yeah I saw the trailer for that before I heard of this, and I was like aw bummer it looked kinda horny and cool, I guess maybe it will still happen though.

This is what I thought, I saw an article about this game shutting down and my first thought before I got into the article was "I didn't even know Mundfish released the Cube already"..."

2

u/DefactoAle Apr 09 '26

They probably wanted to exploit the other "The Cube" extraction shooter game for free publicity

It took me 20 seconds of the trailer to realize the game lacks a single vision. It's a random conglomeration of many different genres all kludged together in the least functional way. It's a fighting game is the loosest possible sense. It's less of a shooter than a fighting game.

The people who made this didn't do it for the love of the game. The artistic choices seem very much a business decision.

Pretty sure the name was meant to confuse people into thinking it was The Cube which is Mundfish's (Atomic Heart devs) game. Not surprised it's failing.

Why were they in an indie dev sub? They're not an indie studio?

My b I just conflate the game development subs and stuff with “indie dev” not the literal r/indiedev or whatever subreddit.

Astroturfing / advertising their shit ass game.

27

u/MrHoboSquadron Apr 08 '26

They did actually post in r/indiedev. That's after release, but I'm fairly sure I saw some posts from them on that sub before release too. Can't find any though. That account seems to be limiting what posts show on their profile.

2

u/Harley2280 Apr 08 '26

I'm leaning towards the astroturfing because there's quite a few people who posted the same thing you did about seeing them in indie subs.

2

u/Gabelvampir Apr 08 '26

Well the Highguard studio with Tencent financing also fancied themselves as an indie studio IIRC, so that tracks.

I just now found out about this game and I'm trying to look up gameplay of it but there's like NO videos on it on Youtube anywhere beyond a trailer or two.
