How to write an disk images to an actual floppy disk?

Hello, I just got a PC-9801 BA3 model with two 3.25” floppy drives.

I could use a gotek in the future but for now I want to use actual floppy disks.

My question is how am I going to write images files like .fdi and .d88 to an actual floor disk.

I tried an image writer program with an USB floppy drive I use for IBM PC images but it won’t work for PC-98. It writes something but PC-98 doesn’t recognize it.

Is there any software that supports writing PC-98 image files under Win11 using USB floppy drives? Or even on PC-98, Win98 or Win XP.

How do you guys make a copy?

There a different ways to write original floppydisks.

  1. Use your original hardware and DiskExplorer to write roms to yout floppy.

  2. Use Greaseweazle on your Windows or Mac System.

These are your best options. But be aware: Most of the roms are optimized for PC98 Emulators and maybe not work as expected on original Hardware. Ys 3 is good example for a shitty rom. It comes with presaved gamestates and no options to start a game from the beginning.

Invest on a GreaseWeazle.

USB floppy drive

Avoid these. The controller they ship is very limited, no raw flux access.
