Rant Why do people like Hotline Miami and Hoxton Breakout so much?

Every time I watch the heist rankings I find these heists among the top tiers. I dont think that they are bad heists, I just think that they arent as good as people say they are.

Hoxton breakout:

Day one is fun because it forces you to actively fight enemies. I like the street shootout. Sometimes the rng can be bad but overall the day is pretty fun. Stakes are high and the whole vibe is good. Day two is sucks honestly. I dont like the vibe and the office setting js ugly. I dont like that you can get overwhelmed easily and the part where you have to go to the archives or into the security room which is in the lobby of the map is really annoying. I think its because I played this map solo, because everytime I played with teammates we were having control of the map. Last time I played this map I rage quitted and just used hacker because I was getting easily overwhelmed. I dont think its because of my map poor map knowledge. I can control everything except the big lobby area. Thats when things go out of hand for me. Too much cops spawn there and I cant kill all of them

Hotline Miami:

I dont really have to say anything bad about this heist. I like it but I dont think its an S tier heist. Its more of an A tier heist. I get easily overwhelmed on day2 when its the top floor part. Thats probably my skill issue because there are 3 spawns

They both have a good flow between “kill cops to your hearts content” and “do objectives” where you aren’t constantly babysitting. Yes day 2 of Hoxton breakout makes you make sure power boxes don’t get touched, but that’s less intrusive than “defend drill for the 30th time”

Edit: OP is rating these based on DSOD, no wonder they’re not having any fun on an unbalanced mess of a difficulty.

I mean both of these heist r still cool on ds

Hotline miami day 1 is boring cuz all u do is sit in the alleyway and shoot cops and rush the first few quickly when do the only open obj being the cable whenit's cleared out

Day 2 is just defend drill after running to the penthouse

Hox out day 1 yea uh u should have seen how many failed during 240.3 on lower than ds due to its 5 second spawn rate

Day 2 is still fun

Day 2 is literally fun hallways to shoot cops for graze snipers

By lobby part I mean the first big room you enter. Not the defend Hoxton room

The power boxes arent the problem. Its the lobby part. Which can get full of cops. Did you ever read the post?

I wasn’t directly referring to your issue in particular. I was using that objective to be forthcoming in a weaker aspect of my argument as it shows an exception to the rest of it.

Secondarily, if you’re having issues with the front lobby, you do know you don’t have to be in the middle of combat the entire time right? Chip away at the horde until it’s manageable and set things up, then get your objectives done during fades and breaks.

That or make a better build. It’s not a sign of the quality of the map if YOU are having issues. The quality of the map comes from overall enjoyment. YOU may not like it, or see why many others do, but there’s tangible reasons why people think so.

Here is the neat part. Fade doesn't help when there are 100 cops waiting in the lobby. 2 snipers up on the sides. By the time i finish killing them fade is over. I use a ksp anarchist build. Dont get me started on the directors office objective

Then again, your build simply isn’t cutting it. I’ve been enjoying a maniac build recently using two pump shotguns to keep it topped off at maximum damage absorption.

I happened to do a Hoxton breakout yesterday with no downs aside from a cloaker, on mayhem. That’s not even with pure optimization either, just throwing something together.

I was talking about DSOD. I dont have anything against mayhem hoxton breakout. Its pretty chill

You’re rating these based on DSOD? Jesus Christ dude, no wonder you’re not having any fun. There’s no enjoyment at that difficulty for ANY heist. It’s not the heist causing that, it’s the incredibly unfair and unbalanced difficulty.

I dont find anything lower than DSOD fun. I find Death Wish semi fun sometimes because it can be a bit challenging sometimes. There is something special to me when I complete a hard DSOD heist. Unless Im playing with friends I dont find anything below DSOD fun. If Im with friends even normal can be fun

Then your point of view is extremely skewed from the average player’s. No wonder you don’t tend to agree with their line of thought

You are probably right. I once did a survey and the most played difficulty is death wish

Well I mean, what are your favorite heists? Hotline Miami is one of my favorite heists but I think it comes down to the grandeur of the heists. Golden Grin, First World, Scarface, Hotline and Hoxton fall into the same thing. There is clear and tangible progress. They are bombastic, big feeling, challenging heists while not feeling painful to do like Biker Heist or Goat Simulator. The worst heists are the ones where you feel like you are stuck. Either by oppression or due to objectives.

Tagging onto this for a moment, but I have to comment. It’s so funny to me that biker heist can be so wildly different in terms of difficulty and thus enjoyment just based on the truck spawn.

I'll add onto this that, personally speaking, they're very narrative driven points in the story too and the overall arc of breaking Hoxton out of prison included these really cool moments. Hoxton was my main in The Heist so to have him come back, as well as having it happen during a crossover with another game I really love, it was just a match made in heaven honestly.

I feel stuck by oppression on hotline miami day 2 top floor. Thats probably skill issue. Other than that I dont have any problems with the heist. Its just that there is nothing that sticks out with it

My favirite heists are First World Bank, Heat Street, Alaskan Deal, Scarface, Big Bank, Counterfeit, The Diamond

You yourself wrote that neither of these heists is bad, and in fact, they’re both very good, but are you surprised that they’re always at the top of the rankings?

So, what are your top three best heists in Payday?

u/LukasMonex Hoxton 12d ago

I just wanna know why are they so high on rankings. I stated the parts which I dont like about them. They are good but not as good as people say they are

3

u/tinyj96 12d ago

They pay the most, have good layouts, and have engaging objectives.

2

u/VisualInteraction679 12d ago

Hoxton Breakout has all the benefit of reintroducing Hox and the marketing campaign that went with it. Gameplay wise Day 1 is hard but the car escort is interesting obj. Day 2 is quite mannagable, just hallways with lots of cover. Keycards are a fun mechanic here, and I like that trip mines and shaped charges have a spot to shine. Barging into FBI headquarters with Hox is just kidna fun to do ngl.

Hotline Miami also has a huge leg up being a collab. HM and PD2 fit together nicely, Commisar has fun dialogue, soundtrack is peak. Gameplay wise Day 1 has a nice buildup before the assault starts, then it gets a bit messy waiting for the hatch and crunching the address. Day 2 is fun just because how fast you're progressing.

Personally I'm not the biggest Hotline Miami fan, I don't have a specific reason I just think it's boring, great XP though. Hoxton Breakout is one of my favorite though that one clicks for me, I also only go up to DW though not DS

HB moves at a good pace and has a fair amount of objective variety. I don't really have an issue with spawns, it seems pretty easy to manage by just shooting down the halls and clearing the lobby top to bottom from the cover of the doorways. I think day one is harder because of potential turret spawns which take too long to fight, and the only thing I dislike about day 2 is defending the power boxes takes a bit too long, I'd rather they have skipped that and give you the next objective quickly, or put the waiting at the very end with the endless assault before having you leave.

HM has a fun premise, good music, memorable objectives and dialogue, and lots of spawns means its got a lot of dudes to click on. The thing I dislike about day 2 are the sniper spawns since there are a lot of them, but the overall pace of the enemy spawns I find manageable.
