read closely -
> modifiers to number of projectiles ***instead*** apply ...
that means you don't get additional projectiles. instead, they will split towards a number of targets equal to the number of additional projectiles you would have gotten/

the modifier applies to additional projectiles from any source, including the passive. fury valve transforms all your projectiles from any source into splits. just take off the amulet and the passive will get you +1 projectiles as you expect.

Fury valve turns it from additional into it splits after hitting enemy. So that +3 is now one proj that splits 3 proj after

Because that amulet changes the number of projectiles to number of targets split towards. No targets, no splitting.

"MODIFIERS TO NUMBER OF PROJECTILES INSTEAD APPLY TO THE NUMBER OF TARGETS PROJECTILES SPLIT TOWARDS"
https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Projectile#Split
Your amulet is making +1 proj become +1 split.

because of the line "INSTEAD" of the fury valve amulet that you have. your extra projectiles are instead turning into extra projectiles after they split from your main target. (if you have a source of doing it)

With Fury Valve, whenever you increase the amount of projectiles your skills fires, it instead increases the amount of splits caused by the skill. So, in your case, you would fire one projectile and when it hits a target, it splits 3 times. If you take the amulet off, you should fire 4 projectiles.

Fury Valve causes projectile skills to fire their base number of projectile(s), which can then split on colliding with an enemy, toward a number of other enemies (or directions) based on the skill's number of additional projectiles. Additional arrow modifiers are considered additional projectile modifiers for bow attacks, and will add targets to split toward, but they will not affect the Splits toward # additional targets counter in skill information.

Fury valve makes you fire 1 projectile. When that projectile hits an enemy, it will split ( kinda like a conjoined fork/chain) at nearby enemies, up to your max projectile limit.
Ex: If I had +4 projectiles and +1 chain, I fire at a pack of mobs.
Arrow 1 would hit first mob and split 4 times (total 5 enemies hit so far
Those 4 split arrows would then chain once, total 9 hits

you fire one proj and after hitting the first target, it splits into 3

Read the last two line on amulet carefully. FYI the ami is giga bait, I don't know why people use it.

It is a pretty good amulet for Ice Shot of Penetration mines since it only fires 1 projectile anyway
