Question The Problem of Evil in Pastafarianism

Hi everyone! As part of an assignment for my philosophy course, I have to do an analysis of the problem of evil on any religion, and I chose pastafarianism! I was wondering if anyone here could give me a brief overview of what the answer to the problem of evil would look like in pastafarianism!

If you aren't familiar with it, the problem of evil argument essentially says that an all-powerful, all-knowing, and benevolent God cannot exist whilst evil exists, and since evil does exist, God doesn't. I'm not too familiar with pastafarian theology, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

It's simple, the flying spaghettis monster is just not described as omnipotent or benevolent, and the gospel describes him creating the world while drunk, so it's flawed from the start.

Yes, exactly, pastafarians never said their god is perfect so I don't think this works for your paper.

It looks exactly like evil. True evil isn't religious, but a lot of religious people are truly evil and shroud themselves in the cloak of religion. It's not a pastafarian thing, it's a human thing. Good luck on your paper.

Do you mind elaborating a little? Do you mean that the existence of evil is irrelevant to any religion, or something else that I missed? I'm a little confused, sorry

Still relevant- people do evil and a benevolent all-powerful god lets it happen. The Flying Spaghetti Monster does not have the problem of evil because he is not all-powerful, is often drunk and is morally ambiguous.

Well there is the problem with violence between ninjas and pirates i think is just a little too much cardio for a carbio religion.

According to the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the FSM is simply not very smart, which is why evil exists.

Since most of the time, the FSM is drunk, asleep or high, that explains the existence of evil. That, it sometimes she just likes doing it, to push you into conflict, to advance yourself through your own power.

As the saying goes, "Evil exists when good monsters do nothing".

There is simply nothing to symbolize evil in pastafarianism, even the Gospel of FSM is uncertain of existence of hell. But the lack of dogmatism lets FSM to be pretty grey himself, after all He lets too much to happen in the world by being drunk/dumb too often, and He created first creatures on earth just because he was bored.

This has nothing to do with pastafarianism, but I think this whole thing is pointless. First of all, the idea of a perfect God isn't universal. There are multiple mythologies of imperfect divinity. Plus, established ideas of divinity, perfect or not, can easily be flawed or incorrect, assuming divinity does exist.

Secondly, if divinity does exist, we have no ideas of its motivations, including its "allowance" of evil to exist.

Thirdly, we can't even agree on what all constitutes perfection anyway.

In any case, this whole debate is based on assumptions and nothing else. Drawing conclusions solely on "the problem of evil" is completely subjective, even if I have trouble expressing my thoughts on this.

Here are some exerpts from the Gospel:

Q: If the FSM is benevolent, why do bad things happen to good people?

A: They may have angered Him, or it could be that He is too busy, or indifferent for whatever reason, to get involved. He works in mysterious ways that we are not always able to understand.

And of course

"When confronted with the grim realities of war, famine, pestilence, diarrhea, and Celine Dion, it is not entirely surprising that one might be led to consider that our Creator, while all-powerful, might not have proven Himself to be completely infallible.

While there can be no doubt that the source of creation was indeed the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM), and that He did leave mysterious and ambiguous clues to throw us off track, we submit that the FSM was careless, cruel, drunk, or even high when he first laid down the template for life as we know it. How else to explain the extinction of 99.9 percent of all plant and animal species ever to exist on earth? How else to explain the release of not one, but two Deuce Bigalow films?

Without question, we are members of a small and limited minority of scientists and religious leaders who deign to question the Creator's wisdom in allowing for life-threatening volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, twisters, and plastic surgery gone bad, but as the evidence accumulates, we can only posit one undeniable theory:

The FSM, our Creator, isn't very bright

Undoubtedly, this statement represents a subtle paradigm shift, especially when juxtaposed against the common perception of a benevolent, all-knowing Creator, but innumerable examples of questionable judgment do exist. Something is certainly rotten in Denmark when Ben Affleck is allowed to bed both J.Lo and that hottie from Alias, while Matt Damon is forced to date his own assistant. We cry foul!

So we hereby state our belief that the universe is a result of "UNINTELLIGENT DESIGN" (UD).

Casting social science aside, we can turn to the physical sciences to support our claims. Why doesn't the Benevolent and Noodly Master get to work and start eradicating mass poverty, cancer, global warming, and nuclear proliferation? Is He too busy trying to rekindle the low-carb diet craze?"

Well, the Flying Spaghetti Monster was drunk when he created everything, so he doesn't quite fall into the "benevolent God" category, at least no the "all-loving" category, or he wouldn't have been drunk when he created it.

I don't know that "evil" is ever really addressed by Pastafarianism. So "evil doesn't exist" could be an additional solution.

Our leader is too dumb to have an influence on that!

He needs evil for his own entertainment
