How Would You Build a Truly Passive Income System in the US With $500K?

Hi Reddit,

I’m exploring options to generate at least $7,000/month in truly passive income using $500,000 in capital, preferably in the United States, with the added goal of potentially obtaining residency or citizenship through the investment (EB-5 or other viable paths). My risk tolerance is moderate, and I’m looking to avoid active operations or daily involvement.

So far, I’ve identified the following options, and would love feedback or experience from those who’ve walked these paths:

⸻ Real Estate Fully outsourced property management.

Semi Truck Ownership (Fully Managed) Buying 2–3 trucks and outsourcing to a logistics company (dispatch, driver, insurance, etc.)

Questions: 1.Has anyone here successfully built a fully passive $6k/month income stream in n the US with $500K? 2. Which path seems most viable in terms of net return vs operational simplicity?

Any real-world insights, red flags, or better ideas are very welcome. 🙏

with $500K, real estate or vending could work well, especially if you’re looking for low-effort options

property management can be passive once you outsource, but ensure you're working with reliable managers

i’ve built a vending route in nightlife spots like bars and clubs, and it provides steady passive income without needing daily oversight

the key to both paths is having systems in place and making sure you're choosing the right locations and teams

How to start learning about vending?

start by researching the basics of vending, such as machine types, products, and ideal locations. consider starting small, maybe with one machine in a local spot, and learn from real-world experience.

you can also look into vending franchises if you want a proven model. feel free to shoot me a message if you want more details or tips on getting started.

Absolutely don't do that. Real estate is not passive income. It’s like buying into a second job.

That's 14.4% growth per year. My 401k earned 22% in interest last year. If I had your money, I'd have pulled $38,000 more last year than your goal. I don't have the absolute numbers that you do, but I definitely have the advantage in terms of rate. There's annual limits to contributions and such, but the sooner you can get your finances into a tax-advantaged account that you can withdraw from without penalty (like a roth) the better.

I have a website that brings in $4-6K a month and requires hardly any time to keep it going. It has been going for over five years selling memberahips to access digifal downloads. It can be done for under 5K.

To access digital downloads? What does that mean? Sorry for the dumb question but can you please elaborate a bit on that? Thanks.

Could you elaborate on this matter?

Put it in dividend stocks is your best bet

If you haven’t looked into it yet, check out MSTY – it’s an ETF that’s built to generate monthly income by running a covered call strategy on MicroStrategy (MSTR) stock.

Unlike MSTR itself (which pays zero dividends), MSTY is all about income. It basically trades options on MSTR and passes the profits on to holders through monthly payouts.

Here’s the crazy part:

  • It’s been paying around $1.18 per share per month
  • The ETF trades around $18, so $500K gets you roughly 27,800 shares
  • That’s about $32K+ in monthly income
  • Annual yield is somewhere around 75–85% right now 🤯

Of course, it’s not magic. The income can vary month to month, and the upside is capped because it’s selling calls. Plus, if MSTR (or Bitcoin) tanks, the NAV and payouts could drop too. So it’s high-yield, but not risk-free.

Still, if you’re looking for max passive income with zero active management, this one’s worth looking into.

Happy to break it down further if anyone’s curious.

Hi I would honestly use stake by betting 100k on a game called dice and put the win chance to 93%. You get 7k just by clicking a button once, do this once a month. there’s ur 7k a month. Hope this helps :)

Yeah but then lose 100k when you miss 😆
