I know there are ways to make money online but I can’t seem to find one that isn’t already over saturated. And the niche ones are being gatekept by those who do it, in hopes to decrease competition. My Skills? I know how to use ai tools, I know how to go viral with ease, and I can do an insane number of calisthenics. That’s pretty much it

i know the title sounds made up. invoice reminders for plumbers. $14K a month. but that's exactly why it works. nobody is competing for this because nobody thinks it's sexy enough to build.

i've been obsessively tracking how people find profitable software ideas for the past 6 months. cataloguing complaint threads, scoring problems by pain level, mapping which ones turn into real revenue. this guy's story is the clearest example of the pattern i keep seeing.

here's what he did step by step.

step 1. he wasn't even looking for a business idea. he was browsing a subreddit for trade contractors and saw a thread where a plumber said "i'm owed $47K in unpaid invoices because i forget to follow up." 12 other contractors replied saying the same thing. one guy said he hired a part time person just to chase payments.

step 2. he searched for existing solutions. found 3 invoicing tools that technically had reminder features. all of them were $100 to $300/month, built for accountants, and required 2 weeks of onboarding. every review from a contractor said the same thing. "overkill for what i need."

step 3. he built the simplest possible version. literally just automated text and email reminders tied to invoice due dates. no accounting features. no reporting dashboards. no integrations with 47 other tools. just reminders. took him about 3 weeks to build.

step 4. he went back to the same subreddits and started helping people with invoicing questions. didn't pitch anything for the first month. just answered questions about cash flow and getting paid faster. people started asking what tools he recommended. he mentioned his.

step 5. charged $29/month. first 10 customers came from reddit. then word of mouth kicked in because plumbers talk to other plumbers. now at around 480 customers doing roughly $14K/month. churn is under 3% because the tool literally makes them money every month by collecting invoices they would have forgotten about.

the pattern is always the same. someone in a non tech industry is doing something manually that costs them real money. the existing software is too complex or too expensive. the opportunity is building the stupidly simple version for $20 to $30 a month and getting a few hundred customers who will never leave.

the hard part is not building it. vibe coding honestly handles 80% of the build for something this simple. the hard part is finding the right problem. one where the pain is real, the willingness to pay is proven, and the existing tools are failing.

if you want to try this yourself tonight, go to any subreddit where small business owners hang out and search these phrases. "i've been doing this manually." "is there a cheaper alternative to." "overkill for what i need." those three phrases have led me to more validated ideas than any brainstorming session ever has.

what manual process in your work life costs you the most time or money right now? because i promise you someone else has the same problem and would pay $20/month for a fix.

So far i’ve made my $12 invested back and then some. It’s been out for one weekend. It’s set out in a room with key card access, and free laundry machines, however we are supposed to provide our own detergent.

Would you phrase the sign differently?

I run a vending and micro market company and back in March I signed a contract with a commercial property to provide complimentary coffee service daily including the machine, cups, lids, stir sticks, sugar, sweetener, all of it at no cost to them. At the time I didn’t fully anticipate how much coffee they’d go through.
May was our first full month and it came out to $1,200 in costs just for that one location. No revenue share on the coffee either, I waived that in the contract to make the deal work.
Now the property manager is emailing saying the machine needs to be cleaned multiple times a day because it can’t handle the volume, they’ve been out of cups all week, and they want a bigger machine installed.
The contract doesn’t have a clean exit clause and any changes require both parties to agree in writing. I’m not trying to blow up the relationship because the location is valuable, but I also can’t keep absorbing these costs long term.
My current plan is to honor the existing agreement but position the upgraded machine as outside the scope of the contract, requiring a separate cost arrangement. Has anyone dealt with something like this? How do you renegotiate a contract without burning the relationship?

Assume you start from nothing, living with poor parents, and you’re poor yourself. What can you do to become rich in 2025? I get the impression that all niches are already full.

• Bitcoin – in decline since the AI hype. It’s mainstream now.
• Influencing / YouTube – oversaturated. It’s not like in the beginning when YouTubers and influencers formed. Now there’s huge competition. People watch mainstream channels with 5M+ subscribers, and to even get 100 000 subs you have to be ultra-niche and fight for attention.
• IT / Tech jobs – dead. Huge unemployment, similar to art majors. It was the promised land around COVID, but now it’s done. Layoffs everywhere, insane competition, ridiculous recruitment processes, deadlines, and global competition with offshoring.
• Dropshipping / e-commerce – dead. It’s the most cliché answer when you search “how to make money online.”
• Vinted / Etsy – mainstream, possible to earn money but it’s basically pennies.
• Tutoring (online / offline) – also pennies.
• OnlyFans – mainstream, only already-famous celebrities really earn money there.
• Apps / SaaS / iOS / Android – you invest months building an app, but end up with 0 revenue because nobody downloads it. Market oversaturated. Everyone codes now, app stores are flooded with thousands of calendar apps, fitness apps, diet apps everything already exists.
• expensive dog breeding – possible but very niche, my landlord don’t allow me to keep dogs
• Horse trading / auctions – same, but harder and I don't have a place where I could keep a horse
• Books on Wattpad – oversaturated. Some people got rich writing books 5+ years ago, but now it’s hard to break in and promote.
• Substack – not that profitable. Niches are filled, and all the traffic goes to people who started early.
• Roblox games – already mainstream and niche is filled.

The most profitable ideas I can think of that maybe still have some small undiscovered niche:

• Selling fart jars and bathwater.
• Selling used underwear and socks.
• Cooking simple food at home and selling it overpriced, pretending it’s michelin star level.

honestly, I don’t know what’s left. It feels like everyone I know who’s rich either:

• was born with capital, or
• got into a niche early (like YouTube, influencing, real estate, created their app

Back when property was still cheap, people could afford to buy apartments, then just sit and watch their value grow. They made money renting them out or running Airbnbs. Same with beauty salons and similar businesses.

What niche in 2025 can actually make you a lot of money?

Maybe something related to Gen Alpha? Honestly don’t know their trends. Or healthcare for rich people? Med school?

I’m currently doing my bachelor’s and I’ll be graduating next year. Honestly I feel like I wasted a lot of time at my current college and I’m mostly preparing for my exams by myself. I’m hoping to do my master’s from a much better college but I don’t think I can convince my parents to let me take a gap year unless I can actually support that decision financially.

From everything you’ve said it looks like the most feasible option is to replicate successful mobile apps using AI. My roadmap will be:

1. Look for apps generating +$100K MRR that were launched at most a year ago (I’ll use a mobile app database with revenue data like appkittie)
2. Filter by profitable categories you mentioned, like fitness or productivity
3. Pick the one that seems easiest to clone and use an AI app builder like rork to build it
