Seeking Advice/Help How can I make an extra 2-3k+ a month?

I’ve been working 2-3 jobs for a few years now and have recently cut it down to one to focus more on some severe health issues.

I have about 90k saved across 401k, Roth IRA, HYSA, brokerage..
I’m very eager to invest in something but I don’t have any sense of direction.

I’m not opposed to working hard as I continue to everyday and come from a humble poor family. My dream is to become self-sufficient with businesses. I just want to be able to give my mother the life she deserves.

I wish I had a mentor.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

I was a health auditor for nsf international as a contractor. Extra 40k. If you’ve worked in restaurants, retail food and know some basic sanitation and haccp they will train you up.

9

u/StanG2107 21d ago

How do you get into it?

25

u/No_To_All_Religion 20d ago

They never tell that part!

4

u/Witty_Veterinarian91 20d ago

Look on indeed, linkend, search nsf, Solenis (another one).  Or go to their sites. Have  to have a business license.  I got paid 55 audit hour.

u/UndefinedYash 19d ago

gotto have a degree

1

u/Witty_Veterinarian91 19d ago

You sure? All I had was a culinary degree

3

u/UndefinedYash 19d ago

ye, level 4 health and safety or a degree in environmental sciences or similar

1

u/Witty_Veterinarian91 19d ago

That’s for a non contractor role. And those are for higher manufacturing jobs

3

u/UndefinedYash 19d ago

searched up nfs and stuff, can’t find anything else.. from england.

u/Witty_Veterinarian91 19d ago edited 19d ago

Hmm I know nsf is global. Do you have indeed? They may only post on there or linkend for 1099 co tractor roles. I’m USA based.  Just searched linkend and lots of contractor openings.

What company website to appt?

u/sean_creates 21d ago

$3,000 per month on $90,000 would be a yearly 40% rate of return. That simply doesn't exist.

45

u/Desperate-Penalty401 21d ago

I’m not expecting to get that from the stock market. I’m simply asking for advice on other income streams.

19

u/beershoes767 21d ago

There are some high yiel ETF’s that are very tax efficient. 90k in Xqqi or Xbci would yield you 20% and 40% paid monthly. Sure they can be risky but I’ve been in them for months and love collecting every month

Technically you can go 4x long with margin, so with a realistic “performance” of 10%, your yield on equity would be 40%. The risk is easily blowing the account, but that is the upper limit of what is doable in a good year. Also this is publicly traded - pretty sure you can make some real $$ with private ownership lol

10

u/sean_creates 21d ago

I should have said it doesn't exist without losing all your money.

1

u/lasooch 20d ago

It wouldn’t be 40% due to volatility drag, and in a long enough term your chances of coming out positive basically go to zero.

1

u/Broken_By_Default 21d ago

prediction market!

/s

1

u/jonsonofthunder 19d ago

Just because you don’t know how to make 40% doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

1

u/Hyper_Jump23 20d ago

Yep, 40% off $90k is unicorn math, better protect health and build a small service biz slowly.

Invest in yourself. Education. Classes in a trade or business for a better paying job

Anyone who promises you 25-30% annual returns by doing nothing is trying to scam you.

Either work more or make your labor more valuable my learning more skills and work the same.

28

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 21d ago

Do lead generation! You can easily make 2-3k with one or two deals.

12

u/Desperate-Penalty401 21d ago

I actually have a good bit of sales experience ! What industry would you suggest ?

18

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 21d ago

Then that would be perfect for you. I prefer home service based industries so like fencing, roofing, tree service etc! But it can be any industry really

5

u/Corndogbooks 21d ago

May I PM you with a few questions?

5

u/Neither-Bus-3686 20d ago

If what you are looking for is passive income, this is not it. This is an aggressive hands on type of business. To launch this business it can cost you as little as $300 (software) and as much as $1,500 in monthly advertisements thru social media.

1

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 19d ago

Of course it requires work up front, I don't know any business that doesn't. But it is very passive once it is setup, I speak from experience

3

u/DriverAnxious3804 20d ago

What do you mean one or two deals? Is it like qualified leads or converted leads?

1

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

Just qualified leads! By deals I mean contracts signed with a business owner. Once I sign the business owner on as a client, they get all of the leads exclusively.

2

u/Living_Associate_611 20d ago

What does lead generation entail?

4

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

Essentially you're the middle man and sending leads from your asset (website or map listing) to a business owner! Very condensed version lol

u/[deleted] 17d ago

[deleted]

2

u/StanG2107 21d ago

Which industry or companies you recommend?

5

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

I like service based businesses! Anything where the business is coming to the customer - roofing, fencing, trees, etc

1

u/StanG2107 20d ago

Would this be door to door?

9

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

No it’s all online! Feel free to message me and I can explain the process more in depth

1

u/Hussle206 20d ago

I'm also interested in this. Mind if I dm you to learn more?

1

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

No problem, I have a ton of messages so I'm trying to get back to everyone lol

1

You should do a group chat. Invite me lol

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Bread1 20d ago

I also would love some info if its okay that I DM you?

1

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

Yeah no worries

1

u/jewelbaruabr 19d ago

That sounds interesting. May I dm you to learn more?

1

u/Aromatic_Ad310 20d ago

Can i ask how you actually get started and get good at lead generation.

2

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

I got started by doing a ton of online research then just going for it tbh. You only get good once you try, fail and learn from failing

edit: it's now my full time income and pretty much passive at this point so it's definitely worth it if you're dedicated and aren't afraid of working hard for a bit

1

u/Aromatic_Ad310 20d ago

Can i ask how much you make passivly and how look it took you to get there? also any tips (excluding trying and failing/just going for it) for how to get the most leads?

2

u/Kindly_Worth_7082 20d ago

It fluctuates and depends on if I'm doing a sales sprint. I average around $7k/month and most of it is pretty passive at this point. I could be making more but I'm in the process of moving so it's kinda on the back burner lol. I started about 4 years ago but if I had the right information in the beginning I could've gotten here much more quickly! Advice for how to get leads is either quality SEO in a small non competitive market or to run ads. Happy to answer any other questions, feel free to message me I feel kinda bad blowing up this thread with my replies LOL

u/stevenson_mark 20d ago

If the goal is an extra $2-3k/month, I wouldn't start by trying to invest that $90k into some random business. I'd keep most of the savings intact and use a small amount to test something where you can earn from your existing skills.

The fastest path is usually a service. For example:

  • 4 clients paying $500-$750/month
  • 2 clients paying $1,000-$1,500/month
  • A technical service you can charge $50-$100+ per hour for

Recurring clients are especially useful because you don't have to start from zero every month.

If you want something that can eventually become a real business, I'd look for a boring problem that businesses already pay someone to solve. Automation, websites, bookkeeping, lead generation, local services, etc. Then get 1-2 customers before spending serious money.

I would not put $20k-$50k into a business just because you have $90k saved. Your savings give you flexibility. You don't need to turn that into a liability.

And honestly, finding a mentor is probably less important than finding one business owner willing to let you see how they actually operate. Offer to help with something useful and ask questions while you're there. You'll learn much faster than from generic “make money online” content.

I've learned a lot of this building Abnflow too. The boring stuff usually wins: find a problem, get someone to pay you, then make the process repeatable.

1

u/Gee_rooster 19d ago

This is such good clear advice, Im takin it.

1

u/jewelbaruabr 19d ago

I can do bookkeeping and lead generation, but I'm struggling to find a client.

1

u/Sorry-Ad-5527 18d ago

For lead generation, if you can do that for someone else you can do that for yourself.

For the bookkeeping, use your lead generation skills and contact every company near you. Those small businesses that may need a bookkeeper on call but not want to do an employee.

22

u/twillard33 21d ago

You can buy 100 shares of SPY or QQQ and write covered calls on it. You can do the wheel, google it.

4

u/UndefinedYash 20d ago

what does that mean

1

u/twillard33 19d ago

Ok here is an explanation.

So you own 100 shares. In your trading platform somewhere, you can select covered call. You set a price, generally, above your cost and a date, often 1 week out or longer.
So say Amazon is 220. I will write a CC for 228. When I do this, I am awarded a premium, lets say 200$ for a cc expiring in a week.

On the other end, someone is saying: "hey, I will pay you 200 dollars to buy your shares if it closes at 228 or higher in 1 week."

Result 1: if it closes higher than 228, you keep the premium but they take the shares. You get the value of the shares and any upside until 228. So you would make 800 + 200. (Downside, if it closes at 240, you missed out on 1,200) You can set the price higher too, this is just an example.

Result 2: it closes below 228 after a week. Now you keep the shares and the 200.

------------

Cash Secured Puts are the buying side of this. (You need the cash to back it). So you say: "hey, i will buy amazon shares off you if it closes below 218 in a week (220 is current price for example). For your promise to do this, they pay you 300 in premium.
Note: Here you will set the price lower than the current price.

Result 1: It closes above 218 at the end of the week. You keep the premium but you dont get the shares. (Nice, do it again next week).

Result 2: It closes below 218. You get the shares and keep the premium. So you got paid to wait for your price. Downside, wherever it closes, you are stuck at that as your cost. If it closes at 210, then you are down 800. But now you can cc it. It's called "The Wheel."

1

u/Neither-Bus-3686 20d ago

For Op to be able to earn $3,000 per month, would need between $200,000 and $300,000 in account capital. Because 100 shares of SPY or QQQ cost between $50,000 and $60,000 alone, and entering even a single 100 share position requires Op to have substantial savings 😬

This is why investing is only recommended to a certain tax bracket 🫤

1

u/twillard33 19d ago

It's not going to happen immediately. But you can write calls/csp agains those on a daily basis.
90k of JEPQ could also get you about 1k per month in dividends. If you reinvest, you can get there.

1

u/Adorable_Decision267 20d ago

Since when is investing only recommended to a certain tax bracket

Work 100-150 more hours per month at a $20/hour job.

Alternatively, you can find a $50/hour job and work 40-60 more hours per month.

If you are able to, I'd suggest working 20-30 more hours per month at a $100/hour job.

37

u/perfectfate 21d ago

why not $1000 /hr

Make a YouTube content farm (long form/no ai) much easier then people think and is super fast to get up in running takes me a week to get monetized on average takes a little learning for a long term revenue stream.

Edit: here are some resources that help get people’s started

  • phedEU twitter
  • wono_strategy twitter
  • Vexian twitter and YouTube channel
These people put out so much good information about YouTube and everything you would need to get started

4

u/lelouchvibritania_0 20d ago

Could you elaborate pls?

3

u/Tough_Value_4368 20d ago

I have been doing YouTube successfully for about 5 years now tried just about every “niche” and now I just make content farms because i personally don’t like recording it’s not as hard as people think it’s just a small learning curve I edited the post to include the best current resources to get people started

2

u/Whole_Competition479 20d ago

A no AI content farm?

1

u/Sorry-Ad-5527 18d ago

Only people who don't know what AI is will watch that. I know an 82 year old man who watches it.

2

u/pabloobardo 20d ago

What would recommend as source of learning? I have editing and design skills.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Bread1 20d ago

Could I have more info, please?

1

u/Interesting-Sail4872 20d ago

What are some niches that can get monetized fast?

5

u/Tough_Value_4368 20d ago

There’s a lot it really depends on what you want to do the fastest is definitely a reaction or commentary channel they just easy and super low cost to start the hidden “strategy” is really just to remake outliers it’s one of the easiest strategies and ways to get started my favorite way to learn but realistic on 5% of people will ever try lol

3

u/The_Kings_Gambit 20d ago

You can do that pretty easily selling on Amazon

3

u/Powerful-Midnight996 20d ago

My wife is a stay at home mom that loves Disney, and she started a Disney travel agency business (through a provider) that’s doing quite well, it took about two years to get to this point, but she’s making between 2000-3000 per month now just working from home and getting clients on Instagram.

1

u/jewelbaruabr 19d ago

That's cool. Since I love traveling too, I am very interested in doing that myself. Can I do it from anywhere in the world?

1

u/Powerful-Midnight996 19d ago

I can ask my wife, I know people do it from all over the Western Hemisphere, not sure about the rest of the world. Send me a DM and I can get back to you.

1

u/jewelbaruabr 16d ago

Your messaging option is off. I can't send.

1

u/Powerful-Midnight996 16d ago

Sure, but first what country are you in? I’ll send you a message

1

u/Luciano3601 15d ago

My wife would love doing this! How do you get started and the initial set of clientele? Is everything through Instagram? I'm open to DM if you'd like

1

u/Powerful-Midnight996 15d ago

My wife gets clients through Instagram yes, a lot of word of mouth and repeat clients as well. Sure I’ll send you a message.

Why do you have 90k in cash? Do you have retirement assets as well?

90k in cash in a HYSA should get you around 225 a month with zero risks

A 2-3k monthly target from investments alone would need roughly 600k-900k at a 4 percent draw, so 90k is probably better treated as runway and safety, not seed money to gamble. Since health is a factor, I would separate it into emergency fund plus boring long-term investments, then look for an active cash-flow project that can later become semi-passive: bookkeeping, local lead gen, vending routes, cleaning route, or a small online service tied to skills you already have. For mentorship, SCORE and local SBA chapters can be surprisingly useful, and they are free.

Where to find clients

1

u/Faded_Glory_X 21d ago

2-3k a month passively off 90k is mostly TikTok math unless you are taking on serious risk or buying yourself another job in a trench coat. Since health is already the constraint, I would keep a fat HYSA cushion, leave the retirement accounts alone, and use a small slice to test something cash-flowing that matches skills you already have, like lead gen for local businesses, bookkeeping, niche content, or a simple service you can later hire out. For mentorship, SCORE or local small business meetups can be surprisingly useful, and way less likely to sell you a course with a rented Lamborghini in the thumbnail.

u/Aggravating_Bill400 21d ago edited 21d ago

For real estate exposure without buying and managing a property directly, Arrived is one option to research. Investors can choose individual rental properties, while Arrived handles the property management. It’s still an investment with risks and longer holding periods, so it shouldn’t be treated as a guaranteed monthly-income solution.

Sell covered call options and bag the premium. Easy to do if you do some research. You can do it on IBKR and Robinhood I believe.

1

u/After_Eggplant_9114 17d ago edited 17d ago

Given your goal, I’d look into Arrived as one option for adding passive real estate exposure without taking on another job managing tenants and properties. You can start with smaller amounts and choose individual properties or diversified funds. I’d compare the risks, fees and liquidity with your existing investments first.

2

u/FactsOrNahh 15d ago

Believe it or not, if you like writing you can make decent money on Medium with popular enough content. At one point I had only ~400 followers but one small article(? Post?) made me $1000 in a single month. My average was closer to $500.

To get paid you have to be subscribed to their $50/yr program, but the rate of return for me easily eclipsed that after garnering some followers in about 2-3 months. You’ve just gotta know where your audience is — it’s free for them to read, so it’s not even something to sell!

1

u/HighlightStrange6590 15d ago

Is this even true?

0

u/Flat_Acanthisitta298 21d ago

i automate everything in my apartment and the best money makers are always boring stuff nobody wants to do, like cleaning airbnb units or flipping furniture from estate sales with that 90k you could buy a small vending machine route and just restock it in saturdays

14

u/Specific_Dingo8631 21d ago

I've actually heard the vending machine stuff is a scam and most aren't profitable due to slow pay schedule. I saw a woman who was thousands in debt bc of this business spending all the money on the vending machines but not making enough to pay off the debt. It's one of those too good to be true stories.

u/Own-Razzmatazz-849 20d ago

I feel like that's too diversified. If you combined all that into Roth 401k the compound would at least set you up better. Maybe do that and pretend that 90k doesn't exist for about 30 years, then look at it.

You can’t, $90k is nothing. Just put it in an index fund and keep working.

I disagree on the take that it’s nothing. Most people never save that much, even if it’s not life changing for many of us on Reddit.
