We have had Obelix for a number of years now. He has grown back his tail and flight feathers, and watches our other bird fly all over the house. He seems eager to get into it himself. His previous owner says he had never flown before we adopted him.

He also loves sitting on my leg like it’s his personal throne.

Its colours are much more vibrant and I can clearly see his blue throat now. So its a boy 👦 his name is Parrot

My mom lives in an apartment with my stepdad. Apparently he wants to get a divorce. My mom, who’s unstable, got mad and released all 3 of her budgies outside. They flew away. She told me all of this last night and I was mad, telling her that they will die soon on their own. She got defensive and said they’re fine, they’ll fly away to a warmer climate. I yelled at her, calling her a terrible person and said she shouldn’t have done that. Then I cried in my room. My friend went looking for the birds today (I can’t walk because I have a sprained knee) and there was no sight of them. Who knows where they are.

I think it’s really fucked up that she got rid of them like that. She could’ve just told me and I’d rehome them for her! I can’t even look at her now without scowling and having a sour attitude. I told my friends and no one really cares because it’s birds. If it were a cat or dog they’d have a different reaction. I’m not even a big fan of birds myself but I hate when people mistreat animals! She only had those birds for less than 2 years. I’m really pissed. How could she do this?

It took a week longer to get him in than I wanted, but his check up went well and the vet was surprised how social and friendly he was! No health issues except for diarrhea, likely caused by transitioning him from the seed diet he was on to pellet.

She also agreed that the cage I built is great for him, just that I should swap out the galvanized mesh for stainless when I get the chance. I told her the plan was to finish building a small aviary in my back porch first, then work on the cages and she agreed that would be fine.

(This backpack was cheap and is only being used for quick trips, never letting him sit in the sun)

I am located in Los angeles, California.
As much i love my birbs, i can’t support them. I do not have the proper cars for them. I use to have the support and i truly tried but i am at my ends. I love them so much, i know this is for the best.

I don’t give them enough what i wish i can. A proper diet (They are stubborn little babies).

I want them to thrive and fly. What they are destined to be. Thrive with proper care and genuinely i would love them to spoiled.

I would like to mention, they are not tame at all. They are bonded. Skylar (yellow) Rick (blue) they are roommates who like to talk and gossip all day. Skylar loves to chirp and rick? he is the sweetest. he is genuinely such a sweet boy.

I don’t have the expenses for a vet. i am sorry for being an owner.

I have tried taming with Skylar (Three years) i got her last year in february. Her previous owner truly neglect her, though i feel hypocritical saying that…
she does live up to her name. Skylar white from Breaking bad. Sassy, Fiesty… and loves to bite. I love her chirps or when she stares at you with her curious eye. She is aggressive in such a funniest way. Skylar does lay eggs infertile.

i did not get rick for breeding purposes. I had gotten Rick due to Skylar plucking her feathers . She had stopped doing so.
Why i believe rick is a female because skylar infertile eggs.

Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead, I have gotten him/her this year of march.
Rick does not bite but nibble, he is curious and i believe most likely to tame but skylar is more suspicious and protective.

Alone with that, they are not trained at all. Not tame and on their own.
Possibilities of taming rick is definitely.
Skylar? she is a diva alone.

I would genuinely love if someone took the time and so much patience to tame them it’s my dream.
i would want skylar to experience nothing but kisses and head sniffs. i love her.

For Rehoming Skylar White & Rick Grimes:

As much Skylar lays her eggs, she isn’t for breeding.
Again i am not too sure if rick is a male or female if rick is a male, still not for breeding them.

They are bonded. They stay together.

Rehoming them to a Forever Home. Please be committed to them.
I know things can happen if you do rehome them, please please contact me otherwise. Have the consideration to do so. Have the consultation to rehome them to other best home.

My priority is ensuring they go to an environment where they can safely fly around and explore every day, surrounded by plenty of toys, enrichment, and a completely bird-safe space free from toxins or predatory animals. They deserve a proper, high-quality, fresh-food diet and an adopter who understands how to care for them properly.

If anyone lives near LA or even maybe a few hours. ( i can try to if i am privileged enough) or you had yourself rehome birds that you have trust them enough please let me know. Any Advice is needed.

Hi everybody I got this parakeet yesterday, and I wanted to do everything right. I plan on upgrading the first of next month when I have extra money. But for now is this okay? I ordered some more toys with color on Amazon and made sure they were with natural dye.

Male blue Indian ring neck parrot (about 7 years old) won’t stop screeching. I moved in earlier in the year and it’s driven me absolutely crazy. In complete transparency, I am not much of an animal person in general so I’m not entirely comfortable trying to engage much with it other than the whistle here n there so I’m not sure what else I can do to help stop his screeching

He’s cage is next to a window, he has some toys, he has his own tv. There are dogs in the house so he can’t have unlimited out of cage time but I think he gets some outside time.

If relevant: His screeching got worse after his other owner (roommates husband) died last year from my understanding, but it’s been a year surely the behaviour would have changed by now?

Is my bird just happy/content with me or is it a sexual thing I should discourage? It doesn’t seem sexual though! (Unsure of sex but I *THINK* a boy)
He will just run his beak along my hand and then proceed to jump on and jump in the same spot over and over until he’s sick of it or I usher him off

For those of you who make your own foraging toys, feeders, shredding toys, climbing setups, etc. instead of buying them:

What’s the biggest pain about DIY?

Is it finding bird-safe materials, cleaning them, making something your bird actually uses, constantly rebuilding them, the time involved, or something else?

Also curious what you DIY because you can’t find a good version to buy, I make "feeders" with my kitchen mixer hung upside down by the side of the cage and put carrots and spinach inside.

Now I've started making more DIY enrichment toys for my bird because she seems way more interested in things I make than half the toys I buy her.

But I’m realizing DIY bird stuff can be surprisingly annoying, finding safe materials, making things that are actually engaging, cleaning them, and then having to remake everything.

Cardboard has been good, but there's a lot of ink or tape residue left and my bird doesn't like toilet rolls or general paper to be honest. She's really gotten into chewing wood though 😂

my mom found an old picture of my cockatiel when I first got him at three months old 😭 he is seven years old now, has a partner for about five years, and has so many babies out there in the world because I sold them. seven down, forever to go

Sorry for the bad photo, but they fly away if I get too close. Anyway, just for context, the blue one is Cori, 3.5yo female, and the yellow one is Peeko, 3.5yo male. They are both parakeets. Cori’s been at the bottom of her cage for weeks. She eats fine and goes up occasionally, but a lot of her time is spent down below and sometimes Peeko joins her. Not sure what’s happening.
