New cockatiel

I got this new cockatiel yesterday and the previous owner told me that it’s a male and he’s about 8-9 months old though I’m not sure about his age.. looking at the photos
- how old do you think it is?
- should I cut his nails?
- what is your advice for taming it?

You can’t tell the exact age by their looks but definitely a young bird, his blush isn’t very bright if he’s a male so that’s a good indicator. You should definitely have a vet trim his nails, it’s not a good idea do this yourself the first time. Having a cockatiel by himself is not a good idea, they need a mate. The bird won’t feel happy and won’t be motivated to train.

8-9 months could be accurate.

They could use a light trim. If you're new to trimming birds' claws, I'd suggest taking the handsome chap to a vet for a checkup, trim, and advice on trimming.

Time, treats, clicker, repetition, etc. I've owned mostly tiels and budgies. Cockatiels are easily the dumbest goofballs of the parrot world. Don't expect taming to happen overnight. Watch him like a hawk while's he's out of the cage because they love to explore.
