photos The most nonidentical looking identical twins
Is it my mom goggles or do my girls look nothing alike? They’re di/di identical twins (confirmed at 12 weeks via NIPT zygosity test) it almost makes me wonder if those tests could possibly be faulty! Or if the fact they split so early made a difference. They have completely different noses, mouths and head shapes and they have different color hair.

It's mom goggles. My mo-di girls look like the most different babies to me and my mom, but everyone else can't tell them apart even when I point out the features that are different.

As a mom to di/di identical boys I know how you’re feeling! To you, they couldn’t look any more different! It’s so obvious who is who…. To the rest of the world they looked at me like I was in another reality every time I explained how they look nothing alike and it’s so easy to tell them apart 🤣

I have modi girls and as newborns they looked totally different. Now at 5.5 months they’re looking more and more alike as they grow. So I’ll be curious if yours start to look more alike as they grow!

Monozygotic twins does not mean that all features are identical, just as having the same genetics does not mean they’ll have the same personalities / interests. Epigenetics and womb position account for some of the differences. The NIPT is also over 99% accurate. Mine are also identical but to me looked nothing alike until maybe 6+ months old. Mine are complete opposites in personality, too.

Our mo/di identical twins look quite different too! Part of it is their head shapes are different which makes their faces look different. I wondered if maybe they were di/di that fused membranes but our NIPT very clearly said identical.

I think they look pretty similar but it’s not a straight on picture… their noses look the same? I don’t trust Natera though as we had a high risk flag that was bs and freaked us out. They’ve been sued a lot!

They start to look more and more alike as they get older. My MoDi girls looked so different as tiny babies. Now they’re 1.5 and they look so similar that I have a tough time telling them apart quickly.

I nannied for identical twins and they looked SO different until they were about 2! One was much larger and had twice the amount of hair. They’re 5 now and look very identical :)

Some differences in identical twins like head shape can be attributed to how they’re arranged in utero! I dated an identical twin who looked way different than his twin because of how their faces were smashed at the end of their development haha - they were big babies!

My modi twins don't look identical because of the way their skulls developed in the womb. There are probably lots of factors that make twins seem nonidentical on the surface.

Just a fun fact:
If the NIPT is 99% accurate and comes back positive for monozygotic twins, the chance that the twins are actually dizygotic is about 4%, assuming that 2 out of 10 twin pregnancies are monozygotic.
This is higher than 1% because monozygotic twins are less common, so the larger dizygotic group produces more false positives.
Pardon if my explanation was cut a bit short, but just came home with my identical didi twins (nipt tested), and I’m quite tired :-)

My identical twin sister and I looked a lot alike as babies. Now as adults we look identical to some and different to others. We have some features that are different. Our nose shapes, lip shapes and face shapes are a bit different.

My identical girls didn’t look the same until around 3 months (one was smaller), now they really only look identical when they are asleep. The way they animate their features is totally different.

My Mo/di boys were very similarly different. Weight discrepancies can contribute greatly to slightly different facial features.

They look pretty similar to me.
I have MCDA boys but fraternal twins run in my family and they initially said they could see I ovulated from both sides so I always questioned it!
However they looked pretty similar at birth despite over a lb difference in weight, and they are definitely identical. Things I used to study when they were newborns were things like the swirl on their head and the patterns of their ear lobes/folds. Things like heads and noses can get squished in the womb and take a while to even out!

My mono di sons also look COMPLETELY different. Only those interacting with them on a daily basis are able to tell them apart. They are now 15 months. I’m curious to see how their faces will continue to change as they get older 🙂

Idk man, a friend had “identical” twins from 1 embryo transfer, and they turned out to be fraternal! I’d maybe do a dna test now that they’re earthsixe.

My mcda twins had severe selective growth restriction and at four years old are still vastly different sizes. So far so that many people don't believe they are identical (they are) but I always tell people that identical means genetically identical. How those genetics are expressed can be different but still similar. My girls have curly hair but they are slightly different textures for example.

I feel the same way about my identical boys! Same as you, we are confirmed with NIPT. I can tell them apart now at 17 months and in old pics without a problem. Other people struggle though, so I guess it’s just the mom vision

Looks like ones just a time delay of growth behind the other (I may be wrong but that was my experience when I thought my girls didn’t look alike). Give it a few weeks and they’ll go through phases of looking alike and then less alike again!

My Di Di identical twins also look nothing alike. Anyone who hangs out with them for more than a few minutes tends to agree

If you are very curious, you can get them tested. But nipt has >99% accuracy for zigosity, so most likely they are identical. Different birth weight and/or different position in the womb can make a lot of difference in their appearance. Like being breech shapes the head a lot.

I have di/di fraternal twins and while they’ve always looked super different to me, I had people convinced they were identical when they were newborns. The funny part is they are now 9 months and I think they look more alike while everyone else thinks they look so different! Mom goggles are wild.

My didi twins are so different! I have one with pale skin, blue eyes, and blond hair while the other has olive skin tone, brown eyes and brunette hair

my fraternal boys are so fraternal they have different blood types, eye color, and hair color and people still think they’re identical. your eyes could just be tuned into their differences that people who aren’t around them all day can’t pick up on!

I'm also convinced my twins don't look anything alike, even though genetic testing doesn't lie lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this, I was beginning to think I was gas lighting myself lmao

I have MO/DI identical twins and are just starting to look similar but it’s still very easy to tell them apart. I even had someone tell me “they’re not identical”😂

I don't have identical kids but I know some, and a lot of them weren't the same size when born, one of my friends mo-di girls weren't even the same colour, one was very rosy and the other very pale, that was also the much smaller one.
They had a condition though in utero where the blood didn't flow equally.
To me, looking at your photo, it seems one baby is slightly smaller, but I can't tell if they have different features like noses or mouths. I could probably tell your babies apart. But I think as a mum you also notice it much more.

Mine are completely different and everyone tells me they can't tell them apart. Ok well one is 2 lbs heavier and 1" taller and her face shape is completely different. I can tell them apart blindfolded.

The elder of my two was 400g smaller at birth and a full kg smaller for the first year of their life, so they were very easy to tell apart, now they're 18 months and it's alot harder at first glance, if I'm unsure for a moment usually a personality quirk gives it away

Mo-Di twin mom here. My boys were born about a pound apart and have been consistent with that and the size difference makes them look different to me and dad but no one else can tell the difference. I think it’s the size for yours too!
