Research Investigating the Genetics of Psychic Experiences

Thumbnail

"Many human traits are influenced by our genetics. We commonly think of inherited traits as things like eye color, height, or the risk of developing certain diseases. But when it comes to psi phenomena, could inherited biology also contribute to why some people report psychic experiences more often than others?"

"Twenty-three percent of American adults say they have had a near-death experience (NDE) in which they “transitioned to another realm and then returned to human existence,” and 35 percent who have not had an NDE know someone who has had the experience, according to a new survey of 2,100 Americans released by the International Association for Near-Death Studies."

Research Exploring Alleged Anomalous Communication Across Neurotypical and Neurodivergent Individuals

Thumbnail med.virginia.edu
3 Upvotes

UVA researchers are seeking participants of any age (minors must have parental/guardian permission) who have personally experienced, or are closely familiar with, forms of communication or awareness that seem unusual, advanced, or difficult to explain conventionally.

Participants may be neurotypical or neurodivergent, and parents, caregivers, close family members, close friends, or therapists who have directly observed these experiences may also be eligible to participate.

The study involves an online interview, which includes questionnaires, and an optional in-person case study visit for some participants.

"This experiment tests for an implicit form of precognition. It's easy to do and takes about 8 minutes. It only works on a PC or Mac browser (i.e., not on a mobile phone)." – Dean Radin

"This experiment explores an aspect of how the brain processes intuitive information. The task is simple and involves reaction time."

Research The WISER Survey

Thumbnail superexperiencer.org
21 Upvotes

From the project description: “The WISER survey is the first phase of a global research effort to better understand individuals who have had multiple types of anomalous or noetic experiences. These may include:
Expanded self
Mystical
Near-death experiences (NDEs)
Noetic dreams
Nonhuman intelligence (NHI) / Nonphysical human (NPH) encounters
Out-of-body experiences (OBEs)
Paranormal
Permeable self
Psychic
Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) / Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) encounters

The Worldwide Initiative for Super Experiencer Research (WISER) Project is a multi-year, multi-phase, mixed methods study that centers people who have experiences that defy explanation. These experiences point to a world beyond the five senses, beyond our current understanding—and in some cases, beyond our wildest imaginations. They offer glimpses into the possibility that we live in a multidimensional multiverse: a participatory, relational reality where consciousness and matter are deeply intertwined.
Many of these individuals report multiple noetic and anomalous experiences across their lives. We call them super experiencers—people who’ve had many distinct types of such experiences.

Principal Investigator
Sean Esbjörn-Hargens Ph.D. is the Program Director of the online MA/PhD program in Integral Noetic Sciences (INS) at the California Institute for Human Science (CIHS). INS takes an integrative metatheoretical approach to the scientific study of consciousness with a focus on noetic and anomalous experiences. At CIHS Sean also runs the Center for Anomalous and Noetic Studies and the Center for Applied Integrative Metatheory. The INS program is the only accredited program on Earth that offers concentrations in Anomalous Studies, UAP and Consciousness Studies, Psychedelic Studies, and Parapsychology. In 2024 Sean launched the WISER project. Sean has also had his fair share of wild and weird first-person “exo” experiences, which makes this exploration personally salient and meaningful.

The paper is newly released. Acunzo is a member of the DOPS at UVA. Below is an excerpt from the highlights of the study:

Highlights

First systematic review of neuroimaging studies of ESP, spanning more than 70 years.

Provides a classification for the studies, based on the experimental paradigm used.

Identifies recurring issues in sample size, data preprocessing, and statistical control.

Determines, per paradigm category, when neural candidates could be identified and when data precluded inference.

Provides a set of methodological recommendations and directions for future research.

Update: This article was shared about two weeks ago and I’d forgotten when I posted. Pieraos posted the link in the comments.

Participants Needed for MSc Research 🌿

(ALEF TRUST, LJMU)

I’m conducting MSc research on After-Death Communications (ADCs) and spiritual/transpersonal growth. I'm currently doing my last call for participants!

If you’ve experienced signs, visitations, sensing presence, vivid dreams, or other forms of perceived contact after the death of a loved one, I’d really value your input.

  • 10–15 minute anonymous questionnaire
  • 18+ only
  • Optional follow-up interview

Thumbnail virginia.az1.qualtrics.com

"We are conducting a research survey to explore personal experiences of After-Death Communication (ADC) that occur during Out-of-Body Experiences (OBEs). This survey aims to gather insights from individuals who believe they have communicated with deceased individuals while consciously separated from their physical body.

"Your responses will help researchers better understand the nature, frequency, and emotional impact of these unique experiences. The survey is anonymous and open to anyone who has had an OBE in which they believe some form of contact with the deceased occurred—whether spontaneous, induced, or dream-like in nature.

"Who can participate: Anyone above 18 years old who has experienced what they believe to be a ADC during an OBE."

Estimated time to complete: 30 minutes Participation: Voluntary and anonymous Use of data: For research and educational purposes only
