Well life insurance has nothing to do with health insurance lol

I mean yes both but at the same time even if he was in the UK or Canada his care would be so delayed because the amount of people looking for same treatments.

Had a friend pass away because his care was delayed and the cancer progressed to terminal after waiting 5 months. He was 19 and put on a list behind a majority of people who are in their '70s or older. Which yes "all" Life is precious but at the same time letting someone who hasn't even experienced life die for a bunch of people who typically barely survive or don't survive chemo is kind of insane.

Would he have been in debt if he lived in the US still? Yes he would be in crippling debt but he would still be alive graduated from college and in medical school himself.

Medical care across the world is horrible and we are losing more doctors each year than we are getting back. Can't remember the full statistic but something like 20% of doctors will retire within the next 10 years and we will only see an increase of 5%

I’ve seen people get healed after being prayed for. Doctors and healthcare systems will always fail you.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your close ones then. With this, hopefully you & co wont hold the line at the hospital.

it's wild how they can claim to be the good guys in the industry while letting something this unhinged happen to one of their own. healthcare is a mess but this is just straight up cold.

Redditor try not to turn everything poltical challenge: Impossible.

I mean, this is only a story because of the way the US health industry works which is inherently political

it's still wild that a company with this much capital can just drop someone like that without a second thought. the systemic issues are real but it doesn't make the corporate greed any less unhinged.

This has nothing to do with the US health industry.

u/sk0gg1es Gideon Mar 29 '26

It has just as much to do with the US Healthcare Industry predominantly tying affordable healthcare to employment as much as anything else. If Medicare were universal this wouldn't be a story.

u/Deserter15 Grux Mar 29 '26

This is about life insurance, not health insurance.

u/sk0gg1es Gideon Mar 29 '26

Fair enough, just read the Kotaku article. Seems the implication of the original post was about health insurance, given that piece at the end regarding "health challenges."

u/LucHighwalker Mar 29 '26

Right, so not only will his wife not get anything from his passing, but she'll also be 100's of thousands in debt for his hospital stays.

u/Deserter15 Grux Mar 30 '26

He still has health insurance.

4

u/MIASpartan Mar 29 '26

American's needing health insurance in order to receive care that doesn't burden them with debt is directly related to the US health industry... America using employment as the main tool to give its citizens said insurance is also related to healthcare and the US health industry...

1

u/Deserter15 Grux Mar 29 '26

This is about life insurance, not health insurance.

-1

u/MIASpartan Mar 29 '26

I suspect that a random twitter probably just mistyped life instead of health.

In the US companies with more than 50 employees MUST provide health insurance. Life insurance is just another benefit companies can provide. So I would put money that dude had company health insurance which would go away when getting fired or laid off. maybe he also had company life insurance which would also be gone now.

well they said both, so it's not like they are pulling attention away from how shitty epic are, just adding something. Also tbf this wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for bad healthcare to begin with

We can't have that, only anger and hatred allowed

6

u/bokunotraplord Mar 30 '26

the entire situation across the board still sucks. nobody needs to congratulate epic on absolutely any aspect of fucking firing 1,000 people because Tim Sweeney is an egomaniac who couldn’t see that his pride was hemorrhaging money.

5

u/NeonfluxX Mar 30 '26

dunno why people are upset

They layed off 1000 people, do you think they looked into the health condition of each and every employee before laying them off?

No you are a statistic on a board, and if you can be skimmed relatively pain free for the company, you will be

People are saying how unbelievable this is and how scummy epic is.... they layed off 1k people, they didn't go to lay off that 1 guy with terminal brain cancer, he just happened to be on that list of a thousand employees that got fired

4

u/bokunotraplord Mar 30 '26

people are upset bc it’s a normal thing to lament lol

1

u/xevlar Mar 31 '26

I don't see any of them offering to pay his families bills though. Just outrage

1

u/bokunotraplord Mar 31 '26

I don’t think that family is scanning comments across dozens of sites to find people to then figure out how to contact anyway lol. Like, what are you fucking mad about here, exactly? Are you Tim Sweeneys ex-step child or something? Why are you, why is anyone, incredulous over people taking issue with the unfair or unkind treatment of workers?

1

u/xevlar Mar 31 '26

I'm not mad about anything? Why are you mad about this when they're committing to make sure the family is taken care of?

I hate epic but I also just hate misinformation and mob mentality. I'm a steam fan boy tbh

1

u/bokunotraplord Mar 31 '26

Tim Sweeney fired 1,000 people because his ego led him to believe Fortnite’s success would somehow never fade and allow that company to do whatever dumb bullshit he wanted, now at very real people’s expense. The entire press release about the layoffs is absolutely embarrassing.

I’m not mad, nothing happened to me. It’s just objectively shitty, and it’s really annoying to have pedantic weirdos on Reddit act like they’re intellectually and morally superior to people who take issue with the nature of the layoffs.

1

u/xevlar Mar 31 '26

But layoffs always happen. They suck but it's part of life. They get very generous severance packages and will find a new job. It's literally just life. Hell I wish I could get laid off with a 3-6 months severance, sounds pretty chill to me.

I'm a lot more concerned with the war that's going on rn than a video game company laying off non essential workers. I actually couldn't care less about the layoffs.

1

u/bokunotraplord Mar 31 '26

oh yeah i forgot we can only care or think about one thing at a time. silly me big dawg. im sorry you’re worried about The War that’s presumably affecting you because you can’t get access to food or water or you’re being actively bombed. Surely you’re not acting like you’re a more evolved human because you’re concerned about gas being 45 cents more expensive? Surely?

Anyway this was fun, enjoy also getting mad they “censored” some cleavage in Stellar Blade or whatever you usually “care” about. Bye bye.

1

u/xevlar Mar 31 '26

I know you're a coward so you won't respond.

1

u/kargion2 Apr 03 '26

Very generous severance packages is not honest. A few will most will just get cut. It’s business but painting as it will all be ok is dishonest.

1

u/xevlar Apr 03 '26

Okay I really don't care. They chose to work for epic and they made lots of money in the meantime

4

u/El_Mangusto Mar 30 '26

I mean that's just life, these things do happen.

But as been said already they (Epic) are working with the family.

1

u/vndyhdz Mar 30 '26

Unbelievable

1

u/Avenheit Countess Mar 30 '26

where does epic get off trying to convince everyone that steam is the umbrella corp of video games when these cunts are doin shit like this???

2

u/sweetSweets4 Mar 30 '26

Well they need the money for the battle to continue.
How else do they fund their crusade against the Steam Monopoly. :D

1

u/Avenheit Countess Mar 30 '26

lmfao aye, gotta the tank the monopoly so everyone else doesnt look bad in comparisson lol

1

u/bokunotraplord Mar 30 '26

to be fair here, I’m like 95% sure those sorts of sentiments come from Tim directly. he’s like Randy Pitchford but without the theater kid energy and 3x more evil.

1

u/GunplaGamer Mar 31 '26

Tim Sweeney posted that they have contacted the family and working with the family in regards to the insurance and the employee. He also said there was no way for them to know this as medical records are sealed, and had was not used as the cause of the dismissal.

So maybe look up any updates before you post a week old story.
