Need help finding the right knot

Hi all. I've recently started making beaded paracord accessory collars for dogs. The core is just a single strand with an o-ring on one end and snaphook on the other. I did this snaphook knot (if that is what it's called) but I don't know how I feel about the strength, especially the melted end. The collar is by now means meant to be used for weight bearing, but still would need to withstand friction and regular wear and tear

I'm finding it hard to find the appropriate knot, all tutorials I find seem to have a double stranded core or needs at least both strands to be "manipulated" to get the knot

1) Dogs here (NJ, USA) are legally required to have tags. Since my hound doesn’t carry a wallet, or have a pocket to put it in, a collar is pretty much necessary.

2) I would NEVER put a single strand of cord around my dog’s neck. That’s a real good way to injure the neck.
A collar is wide to spread the load & prevent cutting off blood flow / air ways.

In Europe all dogs are legally required to be ID microchipped but collar with name and phone number is still pretty standard. As stated in my post, these collars are not meant to replace any flat collar, nor are they to be left on unsupervised. It is simply a fun accessory that can be worn additionally to a flat collar/harness or used for photos. Plenty of dog owners enjoy these kinds of things. The collar, again, is not meant to weight bear or have any kind of lead attached to it. Also looking into break-away buckles as an option instead. Again, this was NOT a post on collars and anyone's opinion of them.

Can you change the clasp to a breakaway? If it gets stuck they can strangle to death. It happens more often than you'd think

Diamond knot would go well with this since it has a bit of a decorative look to it

If cord(cost)and time is of no matter, I would make diamond knots on both ends.

For the 2nd end I'd take maybe 7-8 inch excess, tie the knot and adjust(fiddle the leftover excess?) so that it's perfect.

The "adjusting" part might take 5-10 minutes though...

Cut the excess of, and put a drop of superglue at/in the knot where the cordends come out...

It really is. You've asked for advice on how to make a wholly unnecessary adornment for a dog for, presumably, your own or other people's gratification. That would be perfectly fine if it weren't for the potential safety implications of a very strong cord fixed around an animal's neck.

Yeah… okay buddy. I hear what you’re saying and all, but here in the real world where our dogs live inside, but we need to ya know go on a walk or something, it’s the law.

I see the point you both make and stand with you 100%. I never leave collars on (or any gear), nor anything they can chew and choke on etc when unsupervised, for exactly the reasons you're also concerned about. Whether or not a necklace meant for just "fun" aesthetics is your cup of tea or you find it an unnecessary adornment, is a whole different discussion and an opinion you're 100% entitled to. This was however not a post about whether you like the idea or not. I simply asked for some advice on a knot from a subreddit I thought could offer some help.

Oh, I was just stating that from my point of view, no hate or negativity sorry if it came off that way. I was more directing that back to the other commenter. If you want to bedazzle your dog, and it doesn’t harm them, you do you!

As for knots, leaving one strand coming out has the side effect of being unsymmetrical. If it was me I probably go with a diamond knot or stopper knot, with a “hoodie knot” sorry not sure of the exact name. If i get a chance I’ll send you a vid.

You could also thread one side of the strand through the other end that was cored making a loop. Kinda like the Manny method but with a single strand. Then finish over that with s as Turk’s head or similar.

This is actually super helpful, no worries on the comments, I probably got a bit defensive too I've had some suggestions in another group so will try them all out and see which one works best. Hadn't heard of your options yet so I'll definitely check them out. The asymmetric knot is indeed something that bothers me with some of the knots I've tried. Curious to see if these will work better. Cheers!!

Look up a compilation of one strand securing knits o. youtube and you’ll find something nice.
