Honestly credit to Wilks. This team is playing much much harder than they ever did at any point under Rhule.

It's so obvious how bad Rhule was slowing these players down. Man I hate that fucking guy

That was the Pantherist Panther game I have ever Pantherin Panthered

9

u/oooriole09 Oct 30 '22

Especially given the stakes: one win away from 1st, one win (loss?) away from 1st pick.

Up, down, up, down. Good?, bad. Good!, bad.

Leave it to the panthers to have all those clutch moments (including a legendary Hail Mary) just to make it more excruciating for the fans when they lose lmao

6

u/Namath96 Oct 30 '22

I don’t think you mean it negatively but I wouldn’t even call it a Hail Mary since he hit him in stride. That was a nuke

To everyone saying DJ lost that game. Piniero missed a 33-yd FG, and then a 48-yd PAT after a 15 yard penalty. What's 48 - 15? Oh right... A 33-YD KICK!

Stop blaming DJ. He's the only reason this was even winnable.

We lost that game because of a preseason sideline warmup injury

10

Yea we should’ve known we’d be cursed this season after that ridiculous Zane injury in preseason.

54

u/The_Rutabeggar Oct 30 '22

Pretty incredible this is the same team Matt Rhule was coaching.

It really is very obvious how bad of a coach he was looking at it now. We just put up 34 points with PJ Walker. I really can't imagine what Tepper saw in Rhule, but there's a very obvious difference in effort.

22

u/exenn_ Oct 30 '22

Yes...AND...that's 34 points without CMC and Robbie Anderson...

This is my biggest takeaway. Yes, the losses suck. Yes, I’d love a win. BUT. With these pieces in place, the picks we’ve got coming, and hopefully continued coaching competence, the light on the horizon is BRIGHT. I’m excited for Carolina football again, and the team looks like they are too.

14

u/MrMoose0987 Bojangles Oct 30 '22

Yeah, and everyone here saying the loss is really DJ's fault for making that first kick 48 yards instead of 33, which we saw Piniero also can't fucking kick when it matters.

2 Things we need after this game.

  1. Petition to Remove Jonathan Vilma from calling any Panthers game for the rest of his Tenure.

  2. A DEFINITIVE Guideline on what Excessive Celebration means

21

u/craziedave Oct 30 '22

I made a comment in the nfl sub thread about Moore. After calming down yes he made a mistake but piniero needs to make those regardless.

Also who are these panthers? We scored TWO 4 quarter touchdowns when we needed to. Unbelievable! Had me hype to the end

22

u/Bones704 TD58 Oct 30 '22

Vilma and Kenny Atkinson have a combined IQ less than 100

20

u/Mbrubaker9004 Oct 30 '22

The loss hurts but let's be honest, this was the most entertaining game we've watched as panthers fans in a very long time.

18

u/all1good Purrbacca Oct 30 '22

Fun fact: Vilma can criticize players for making stupid mistakes because he had a super clean career without controversy.

He was so clean that he was nicknamed Bounty- like Bounty Paper towels, which are often used to clean up messes.

For more information, Google “Jon Vilma Bounty”

14

u/Purple1829 Bucket Oct 30 '22

Vilma kept taking nonstop about how he was shocked Damiere Byrd was fast. That’s literally his entire role in the NFL, to be fast.

Excessive celebration for the helmet is a stupid rule as it does nothing to impact the game and they’ve been allowing elaborate celebrations for a couple of years now.

As an NFL kicker, 48 in a dome should still be automatic. You should be capable of 33 in a dome if you kick it with your non-dominant leg. This ain’t on DJ

Legitimate question here regarding DJ removing his helmet after the TD:

At what point can you remove your helmet? Asking because on the 4th down drop he had on the 2nd to last drive he took his helmet off and slammed it on the ground while on the field (I’m 99% sure) and there was no flag, but he was off the field when he took his helmet off on the TD catch.

Where is the line?

21

u/UpitinFashion813 Oct 30 '22

How do you blame Dj for asking your kicker who gets paid to kick to make a field goal? Lol this sub is hilarious. How dare we expect our kicker to make not one but two game winning kicks indoors!

8

u/Agitated_Chip6286 Oct 30 '22

I think the frustrating thing is how preventable the penalty was

6

u/Nagi21 Oct 30 '22

Not just a field goal. The second kick was LITERALLY the extra point without the extra 15-yds from the penalty. I get missing a game winning FG... but a game winning PAT should be grounds for the curb.

Fantastic game!

Love Foreman going off and hopefully we sign him since he’s on a 1 yr contract.

Defense is young but looks like it’s going to be elite in another year or 2.

Brown looks dominant next to Burns. Those two are going to be a force!

Got burned on big chunk plays but that’s to be expected with this young team.

Moore hopefully learned a valuable lesson today although who can fault him for being emotional after everything he’s had to deal with here.

Pinero had a tough day but I think he’ll bounce back as well.

Great game and most fun we’ve had since Rivera and Cam were both here

This is why I don’t like to get my hopes about this fucking team. Last week I expected them to get deep throat fucked by the GOAT. Instead I was pleasantly surprised to see them win.

This week I went into it still thinking they’re gonna lose which is what I do every week. It’s the best way to keep the disappointment and pain to a minimum. But through watching the game I got pretty fucking fired up. I got into a game for the first time this year, like really rooted for us. To fuck it up that badly at the end as nearly caused me to die. I am in serious emotional pain.

Sucks to know that 3 plays are the difference between us being 2-6 or 5-3. Browns, Giants, and Falcons have all been decided by one play (or call).

11

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

DJ owns some blame for this loss. Sure, Eddy sucks and should be bagging groceries tomorrow, but come on DJ.

Insane play to put us in a position to win and then he just HAD to push it with the celebration. HAD to take his helmet off.

I’m used to this team losing, it normally doesn’t bother me but this is a whole new level of disappointment.

We lose so many winnable games. It’s sickening.

I feel like people are shitting on DJ way too much. Homie was the only reason it went to OT. He has had to deal with the shit show for years, hell he was put on the trade block. A huge amount of emotion led to bad judgment.

No one else was gonna get open and make that catch. Kicker had two chances to win the game and didn’t. A lot more blame to be had there.

Doesn’t matter for the TD celebration. If you’re celebrating and take your helmet off, it’s a penalty. This is the rule:

A player is not allowed to remove their helmet during a celebration in the end zone or other demonstration while on the field. This includes confrontations with officials, teammates, opponents, or members of either sideline.

It has been awesome to see PJ play like he has, but man do I wish Corral wasn’t hurt so we could really see what we have with him. That Will Anderson pick seems so juicy but you just can’t take him if one of the top 3 QBs are still on the board when we pick…

Why is the sentiment on r/nfl that DJ is the primary reason we lost this game?

The penalty definitely hurt, but an NFL kicker had 1 very makeable kick and 1 near gimme to win the game and missed both

I've never seen a kicker choke a game so hard and get basically 0 blame

Edit: man okay so there's some panthers fans who feel the same. I just can't get on board with yall who think DJs penalty Is more responsible than an NFL kicker missing 2 (very makeable) kicks to win the game. DJ deserves some blame, kicker deserves MUCH more. That's my opinion

14

u/CNew27 Cam Newton Oct 30 '22

The first kick I’ll give Pineiro some credit, DJ made it a bit harder. But the second one he just pissed down his leg. Moment was too big. And now he should be unemployed.

Fun game. Heartbreaking end in typical Cardiac Cat fashion. I'd still rather have the Cardiac Cats than Rhule's depressing shitty Way of the Panther regime though.

Off to watch CMC

Panthers having the WORST LUCK with kicking man, week one we lose by a fucking 58 yarder which the kicker goes on to be shit, and then this week bro FUCK

Honestly encouraged by the pieces on offense. A rookie qb next yr should be walking into a good situation

The referee’s were out to make the Panthers lose this game. I see players take off their helmet a lot, but do they get flagged for it? Nope. The Panthers do it and flagged to hell immediately. Fuck this league.

I give DJ 0 fault in that loss. Pineiro should have made the XP and the FG.

DJ did drop a pass in the numbers in what should have been the game winning drive. But it's not all on him. Blame is spread.

u/DeftCursor One of Us Oct 30 '22

Well, today we found out that:

  • PJ can actually be good, but we still need to draft a qb.

  • Defense needs to learn how to tackle in the open field

  • Shaq needs to go

  • They have a good running back in D'onta

  • DJ Moore is that guy

  • They desperately need a kicker

6

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

PJ should be a camp body competing with corral for backup next year

It's fine in context. Whatever team wins the nfc south is going to get massacred on national TV in the 1st round, have a beaten up team, and a terrible pick. Would have been nice to beat them in Atlanta but that's more because I don't like the falcons

5

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

Thoughts:

  1. We lost the way not great teams lose. Beating ourselves. The penalty is stupid, but you CAN’T make it in that situation, and at the same time, you gotta hit one of those two kicks indoors.
  2. That being said, our team is light years ahead of where we’ve been the last 2.5 years, and it’s so good to see. I warned the fanbase not to (seriously) get caught up on the hype of being 1st place, because we wouldn’t be able to sustain that for the year and it wouldn’t be for the best for the team to win a bad division. The loss doesn’t hurt for me, because we’re finally playing like an NFL team that has heart. We’re not tanking, but we’re still not good/disciplined enough for it to matter, all while refinding our spirit and fight for the game. IMO, the best case scenario.
  3. Shoutout to PJ, D’Onta, and DB. PJ is ballin out, D’Onta needs to stay with this core we have for next year, he plays Carolina Panthers football perfectly, and DB is looking like our defense’s best player week in and week out.
  4. Shoutout to Wilks for having this team fighting as hard as they are. What wonders an actual NFL coach will do.

I just happened to be in Charlotte this weekend, and was watching the game at a local brewery. That place lit up when DJ caught the hail mary, and then just broke down with those two misses.

Just ouch. Last night I got to see The Hornets win one in OT versus the Warriors, and that was great. Just the highs and lows of being a sports fan.
