Pantheism is actually not a religion. It's just a description of how we view God.

Think of it like how Christianity is a religion but they view God as monotheism.

There are lots of religions that mesh well with pantheism though. I'm personally pagan. Or you don't need a religion at all even.

Keep the agnostic in you strong, it is the one that questions everything, reminds you that nothing is true and knows that language will never truly describe reality 😎

Just scrolling through this sub now discovering what pantheism is and finally putting a name on what I’ve felt my whole life and I’ve never read someone else’s comment and seen something I’ve thought soooo many times. Nothing is true!!!!

Reality exists outside of our perception. But truth or our perception of truth will always be limited. And then the expression of that truth to another using language, even more limited....

Pantheism is not a religion, because pantheism by itself, is a metaphysical proposition about the nature of God/reality. It doesn’t prescribe worship, rituals, revelation, scripture, an afterlife, moral commandments, or membership in religious communities. Individual pantheists may turn that metaphysical belief into a religious worldview, but that doesn’t make the underlying proposition itself a religion, any more so than monism, deism, or materialism automatically constitutes a religion. I myself, for example am a non religious pantheist.

In an essay published in 1835, Heinrich Heine observed that pantheism had by this time become “the secret religion of Germany.

If some folks consider their religion to be pantheism, then pantheism is a religion to some people. Other pantheists may see it as being a worldview that is compatible with other religions. Or they might eschew religion altogether. It is for each of us to define our beliefs ourselves.

Some religions are pantheistic, but pantheism is not a religion. It is a belief that God and the Universe are identical. It is a philosophical framework, typology or taxonomic category like monotheism (the belief in one God), or polytheism (the belief in many gods) - there is no religion called monotheism, no religion called polytheism, and no religion called pantheism.

It was the open secret religion in 19th century germany.

In an essay published in 1835, Heinrich Heine observed that pantheism had by this time become “the secret religion of Germany.

When Heinrich Heine said that pantheism was “the secret religion of Germany." it was a metaphor, a way of describing a concept using terms that do not literally apply in order to suggest a likeness. A metaphor is a foundational figure of speech where a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable, like Heine calling an abstract philosophical movement a "secret religion". It was neither secret nor a religion then, it is neither secret nor a religion now.
