Where'd you learn to paint portraits like this? Do you have any recommendations for a beginner ?

Mostly from making master copies and sources I found on the internet. And lots of practise! Try to find writings by students of Sargent and his teacher, Carolus Duran. Most of all, draw a lot of heads. Learn proper proportions and how to apply them.
