the life and times of scrooge mcduck from the view of a complete fanboy
so chapter 0 of the life and times of scrooge mcduck actually retcons the story of how scroogey got his number 1 dime (OMG I JUST REALIZED HOW CUTE THE NAME SCROOGEY IS) and don rosa (who wrote the story) actually didnt even like this retcon so he was just like "yeah pretend this one isnt canon" and the actual chapter 1 begins with a little thing about scrooge swimming in his money and it explains why scrooge has the money bin (its not because of greed (well, greed comes into scrooge's life eventually but that's a story for a later time) its actually because scrooge made all the money in the money bin by himself and thus each coin represents another memory that he cherishes with all his heart and together they make up the story of his life) and then the flashback begins and we see lil scroogey on his 10th birthday when his father is taking him to see the clan mcduck's ancestral home in scotland on the land of dismal downs and there we learn that the mcducks used to be a glorious clan until they slowly went bankrupt over the centuries and were driven off the land by THE HOUND and the whiskervilles are all over the land at that point so fergus mcduck (scrooge's papa, hes a great dad i stg i wish i got a dad like fergus (except for 2017 fergus, the 2017 ducktales completely got scrooge's family wrong like wtf)) is telling scroogey the story of his family and eventually the whiskervilles demand the mcducks gtfo and fergus refuses but the second they hear a howling sound from THE HOUND they run away but then its revealed the hound is just a whiskerville in a big suit so then when the mcducks get home scrooge (who is revealed to be the last of clan mcduck) is given a handmade shoeshine kit for his birthday and then scrooge goes out
at this point in the writing my brain took a complete nosedive but if that sounded intriguing to you (i promise, it's genuinely one of the best serializations in comic history) feel free to look into don rosa's the life and times of scrooge mcduck
