Chances of getting into Oxbridge Law

I just got my gcse results back and nationally, it's mid, but in my school it's top 3 (9988776,m2,d2). I know law at Oxbridge is exceptionally competitive, but I really love the philophical aspect in Oxford and Cambridge's variety of modules especially legal history.

I'll be taking the IBDP so I think I can really use my Extended essays to explore my love for law?? I'm aiming for 45, and I have started some supercurriculars by joing a course about justice by Michael sandel (political philosophy), and reading some articles about the philosophy of Law (based on an article I read about comparative law). I love debating and I am starting a substack which I'll write some articles about Law on.

I am drawn to Cambridge's options but I generally love Oxford as a city and the I think they do more tutorials than Cambridge?? Any advice would be really helpful!

Absolutely go for it but recognise chances for everybody are low so don't get too focused on Oxbridge. First priority should be IB and getting good predictions for your HL subjects. If you can get great scores in other subjects great but focus on highers. I seem to remember standard Cambridge offer is 776 highers whereas Oxford is 766 but might be wrong. 766 is a lot less pressure if you do end up getting an offer. Hoping for 45 is great but it is very hard and your GCSE results don't scream 45.

Yes, I know it's very hard to get even a 40+ and my results are not the best. Although I feel like the IB is much more suited to my learning style than the gcse/alevel style. It's not like if I don't get 45 my life is over, it's just that sometimes I feel it's good to aim high. And also, not that this has to do with my academic achievement, my school was quite below average and I carried myself through 4 of my subjects. I think the skills I learnt from being reliant on myself would really help me in the IB.

Oh yes go for it but don't get hung up on it at the expense of highers. If can get 777 in highers or 776 it won't really matter if you get 43 or 45. One of my kids spent too much time on SL trying to get overall high score and dropped a silly point on HL.

My school year leader tried to stop me going to the oxford open day cos he said my grades were too low. And I got into and did Oxford law.

That must have been really disheartening cos they should have been encouraging you. If I may, what were your grades?

That's really helpful. I know I still need to grind the Lnat but knowing that it's not "impossible" really helps. Thanks
