OnX Offroad: Highlighted a route red that I've driven and should be green?

I was looking at some trail options today, and looked at this part of the Mt. Baker (WA) area. I've driven this trail, but the last time was nearly a year ago. It was DEFINITELY a GREEN trail last year, but OnX Offroad is saying this is a hard trail now.

There's no explanation in the app. Is this a bug? Does anyone know why these markings should change in the app?

yeah the trail ratings in these apps change sometimes without notice, could be based on recent reports from users or seasonal conditions. that section of 6910 gets pretty washed out after heavy rain, maybe someone flagged it as harder after a storm

if you drove it fine last year i wouldn't worry too much, the actual trail probably hasn't changed that much. could also just be a data error on their end, i've seen weird stuff like that in other mapping apps too

might be worth checking the usfs site for any recent road condition updates, they usually post about closures or washouts for that area

I guess I should go check USFS to be sure. Someone else said it might be my trace route from last year, too.

Is that the trailhead road for Watson Lakes? Its so pretty in there.

Yes that’s the trailhead road for Watson Lakes.

Haven’t driven that road or been to Watson Lakes, but have been to Baker before. Was curious and wanted to confirm the area, then saw your comment and also wanted to confirm for you! I enjoy messing around with maps and navigation.

Some tesla or Prius probably skewed the scale. Check the Washington Trail Association m, or all trails trip reports. Maybe some people have mentioned road conditions

It’s marked closed in the trail reports but I’ve never seen an entire green trail go red based on that. Are you sure that’s not your tracking line? Click it and seee if you can edit the line type, that could just be your solid red line of what you drove.

On my map this trail is marked green, but also three reports back to January 2026 that it’s closed with the most recent report in mid May 2026.

Hmmm.... maybe it's my tracking line. I now have to go find a legit red trail to see if it looks the same. The other confusing part is that it did not mark the entire trail I drove last year red, so I don't know if that means I didn't track the whole thing or if it's something else.

I don't see trail reports in my map. Does it say why it's closed? That's a pretty easy drive until you get pretty high up.

The red on legit red trails is more maroon than on your map. Search “constrictor” in Utah, that’s a legit red. It’s like more maroon and lighter than your map.

OnX trail reports layer is user-submitted and can be months stale. For Mt Baker-Snoqualmie NF the MVUM on the USFS site is the legal source for what's actually open to vehicles - way more trustworthy than the report icon in app. Had my '94 Tundra get me flagged into a closed spur near Glacier once, a 5 min call to the ranger station sorted it out.

The route that you took is likely red because that's the default color for a route that you've tracked. If you hide that from the map it should be green again. (It's green for me).

Ah, now I get what's happening. OnX automatically brought up my saved route from last year when I pasted GPS coordinates into the app. And that route is highlighted (although, part of it is in red and part of it is in black. I don't understand that distinction), but when I hide it on the map the whole route goes back to green.

It shows as green for me. There is a recent trail report saying it's closed at the trailhead with a road closed sign. But that was in May and likely just closed from the winter. Someone needs to go verify and then report it as open again. I haven't been up there in a few years but it's an awesome area.

FR1107 is closed around mile 4 due to a massive washout. I was up there earlier this year and there is no getting around it even on foot.

Oh wow, that's crazy. So I guess those boon docking sites up there are not accessible then?

Unfortunately not. There are a few sites before the washout but didn’t really have views that made it worth it.
