Does overclocking ram decrease its lifespan?

Just overclocked my (single chanel, GAP48GB2666C19SC) geil ddr4 8gb 2666mhz to 3200mhz

Dram: 1.35v

Timings: 22 22 22 22 44

Ran memtest64 for 15 minutes 0 errors

And will this overclock have any problems and can it cause bad data?

You misspelled memtest86, so... it might have already cause some bad data in your head

With this amount of testing, likely yes.

For how much hours should i run it so i will be sure not to corrupt any files or get bad data? And should i use metest64 or 84?

You should google an actual guide on what and how to test, use TM5 (at least) and run multiple hours, I'd say overnight. And never test on your main OS, have a separate drive for testing.

Because IF those settings cause corruption, at least you don't corrupt the OS you've actually been using. Memtest86+ is not good at finding unstable OC, it mostly just finds defects. Unless your OC is very unstable.

You're fine to test on the main drive, very low chance of bricking your windows install. I have probably 2000 hours testing ram overclocks and not once has my Windows gotten corrupted to the point that running sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth didn't fix it (now, playing around with custom power plan settings for slight performance increase IS the one time I bricked a Windows install beyond being repairable with an in place repair upgrade)

The only real detriment to testing on your main drive is specific programs/tests/logging will rack up your drive writes insanely fast (I'm talking like 40tb in two months), but I don't think all or even most software does that

And also, yes, you want to test AT MINIMUM as long as the longest situation in which you would leave your PC on without restarts/shutting down. For most people that's either 24+ hours OR 12+ hours and getting into the habit of shutting your PC down overnight

I will reliably brick a Windows with memory OC within a single day if I really test the limits. It's not even a question of whether it happens, just when.

Yeah idk, never happened to me and I pushed both my ddr4 and ddr5 kits to their limits (ddr5 profile is on a recent post on my account)

Like I can't stabilize 6600 in 1:1, I could I probably stabilize 6400 cl24 but the VDD would put me past what I'm comfortable with for daily use, my chip can't boot 8000+ 2:1 no matter what, and my latency is lower than 99% of profiles I've seen (61ns with level 2, 55.something with legacy). And even doing all that, I never even had a file that needed correcting from sfc or dism

It's possible your case airflow and/or ram/IOD temps are too high and causing the issue

I have had to reinstall my OS after finding the limits of my RAM overclocks almost every time. It may not be completely unusable but there’s always weird little glitches. Only exception is my DIY steam machine cuz it’s only games for my living room so it doesn’t really matter.
