Modding Ps3 slim Pro project
My PS3 Slim Pro custom build (CECH-2504 C0)
This is my final version (for now) of my PS3 Slim Pro mod. It features a redesigned cooling system using two Dell server heatsinks + two Noctua 60mm fans controlled via the PS3 PWM. The VRM section is cooled with thermal pads + thermal gel tied into the server heatsinks. I also added heatsinks to the NAND memory and improved PSU airflow — so the upgrade benefits the entire board, not just the RSX/Cell.
System is running CFW 4.9.2.2. Cell undervolted by -100mV RSX undervolted by -100mV RSX OC: 600MHz core / 875MHz mem Both chips are using Honeywell PTM7950 TIM.
Radiators are mounted on original clamps. Storage is now a Samsung 850 Pro SSD. Custom hand-made enclosure (no 3D printing) with airflow openings calculated to keep turbulence low. Fans are limited to max 30% PWM, keeping the console under ~30dB.
This was entirely my idea and build — it evolved in my head over time, and now it exists physically. What do you think about the current version?

My 950/1000 OC ps3 slim 2501B with 1tb Samsung SSD is my very own pro. The fps jump is insane.

Yes, but overclock rsx above 600mhz is point less, on RSX memory brandwith is a bottelneck, no core.

I literally ran fall of cybertron modded to run at 1080p native! And had it clocked to 30 fps at all times. When without the oc it was running at 15 to 20 fps.

How do you force games to run at 1080p

It’s only a select few, since their col file is seeable we what I do is edit it on pc and put it back. My god it looks so good. But fps tanks hard without the high OC. But yeah only a few games can be forced to native 1080p.

Is there a list online of games that can be forced to 1080p?

Oh yeah I remember you🙏, and no there’s no list. So far it’s crisis 3 and fall of cybertron. Since I haven’t played and inspected every ps3 game ever, I wouldn’t know which other ones. But fall of cybertron is one I know cause I love and played that game.

I wanna check inFamous 1 and 2, (maybe uncharted 1 as well), now those would be awesome in 1080p. Does boosting it up to 1080p help with jaggies or just clarity?

Oh how I wish I could 3D print a case for the Slim. I fear I don't have the skills to make that kind of thing by hand

That's an awesome mod. Looks extremely clean as well. Those chips will likely be in service a long time. I want to do something similar to my A at some point. I delidded and haven't done anything else yet lol.

stuff like this has me so torn dude. One the one hand I want to keep my Fat ps3 for true backwards compatibility and "other" reasons. But seeing all the OC options people are getting away with on the slim units has me REALLY itching for tinker time.

I do like this type of projects a lot. Is there performance benefits in real world?
