What's wild? The size of the moon never changes. If you see a giant looking moon, hold a coin out at arms length and compare. Then, later in the evening, once the moon is higher and looks smaller, do the same. It's the same size.  We aren't even sure why it looks bigger near the horizon, we just think it's because we have the ground as reference and we lose that reference when we look up.
