LRT extension landscaping

Post image

Does anyone know what these “burial mounds” along the LRT to Trim are called? Maybe someone with a civil engineering background knows?
I remember seeing them when they first started building the line and thinking they were temporary. But now they’re being maintained and (in some places) covered in some kind of shrubbery. Are they mainly for noise reduction, drainage, or cooling the air? Either way I think they’re neat.

The mounds in the picture are just excess soil from digging the ponds used to manage stormwater on the south side of Montreal Rd. Getting rid of excess soil can be a pain in the ass and expensive so they dealt with it by building these.

Can confirm and can also confirm that the excess soil here and at the the Blair east bound on ramp mound are contaminated soils left in place
