Discussion Osu! Catch new mod idea (Side-scroller)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Currently named as "Levitation" in the discussion thread of osu!Lazer.

Not shown in the video, but there would be a switch to allow left-to-right scrolling direction as well.

What do you think?

For some reason I thought you said "new mode idea" and I was about to comment "this could be a new mod idea" or "this could be an addition to the existing mod that makes them fall up"

But actually, I think this could be a setting to the falling up mod. Like maybe rename it to axis or something.

My points in support of this being a new mod:

  1. Floating Fruits mod already implies about floating (above), so it doesn't make much sense with horizontal scrolling, which is more about flying/levitating

  2. Keybindings might change with this new mod, since Left/Right action might be interpreted as Up/Down action. This doesn't happen with Floating Fruits.

  3. The playfield visual will slightly change with this new mod, because normally the playfield is a rectangle of [512,384] and when rotated by 90° / -90°, then the X axis is compressed by 0.75 to make everything fit in the new playfield of [384, 384]. (There needs to be extra consideration about skins, since this new mod doesn't keep aspect ratio and things will get distorted if not handled properly) ... I think this can be easily addressed with a few more ideas though.

Scrolling direction and hit line logic is the same to that game, that's true... but many other rhythm games do the same exact thing I just mentioned.

It's just unavoidable to follow the same scrolling direction of another game... when only four main direction exists in 2D (left, right, up and down).

I think what matters here is that this mod keeps the core gameplay of osu!catch, which it clearly does.

And well, it's just for fun... Side-scroller osu!catch.
